Steve = Richard Herring?

I've always thought that Steve's character is very similar in delivery and style to Richard Herring's comic persona and I wonder was Richard going to play Steve originally? Interestingly Richard's character in TGP Mike the postie is very similar to Stuart Lee's comic persona...Hmmmm.

I agree that Steve's character seems eerily reminiscent of Richard Herring's 90's onstage persona. I don't know if he ever did plan to play the role. An alternative explanation is that it was simply easy for Richard to write that character.

Can't really see Stewart Lee doing the postie role, though. He doesn't have a bean-shaped face, for one thing.
