Does Helene get tolerable before her death

I'm on episode 3 and I just don't like her and I find her even more intolerable than Irene; mostly because of the way she reacts to the Forsyte's attitudes regarding Jolyon. The were very cold to Jolyon, however, it was understandable IMO; he couldn't have it both ways. He either had his Upper middle class life or Love. He Chose Love; NTM he ditched his child in the process. Point Blank. I see Old Jolyons buying of Young Jolyons paintings to be an extreme kindess; for an era when it would have been perfectly exceptable to be treated as "dead" to the family for that.

If you didn't like this Helene, don't watch the superior 1967 version. Helene is just about the only part of that version that I can't stand.

I actually understand some of Helene's complaints, though. When Frances died, the least somebody could have done was let Jolyon know about it; he was still legally her husband and consequently, her next of kin (in a legal sense only). I also think it was ridiculopus of Soames to deny Jolyon the capital to purchase a house using money from his own trust fund left to him by his grandfather. That was done entirely out of spite, and out of Soames's highhanded sense of superiority. Jolyon just wanted to have a decent home in which to raise his children. But of course Soames would never consider those bastard children deserving of it.
