Goodbye, to the members of this board

Dear The Forsyte Saga friends,

In particularly CakesAndAle (I'm also a fan of Maugham, BTW), Hilary, and Furienna, whose posts I've read here for a long time.

Thank you for your discussions, opinions, and insights on the various characters on this show over the years. Even if we haven't always agreed, I've always enjoyed reading your posts, as well as who I believe to be a newcomer, whose name I think is Silverscreen, or something similar.

I realize the show was from 2002, and therefore not a very active board, but I think we can all agree it was and still remains an extraordinary series, even if we haven't always agreed with our interpretations of the characters. It's still been of a great pleasure to me.

I will greatly miss all of you, and the ability to have discussions about the nuances of these finely drawn, and acted, characters.

I'm so saddened to likely never meet you again, or be able to discuss with you this extraordinary series. I wish you all the very best.

Catbookss:

Forgive the Bold print, but The Forsyte Saga board has been the most dignified, feminist, sophisticated forum I have ever been on, anywhere on the internet.

I will miss you all as well. This feels like a death. There can be a Google Group created in the alt.* hierarchy (I think).

Your (Catbookss') contributions have been brilliant, as have the posts of the other group members you mention. The most significant thing to me about The Forsyte Saga board is that, while not active on a daily basis, it sporadically "erupted" into discourse whose equal I'd defy anyone to find on this site. The discourse dealt with very serious issues regarding honesty, the worth of fidelity to undeserving people, and--most of all--how eternally hard it is to be born female on this planet. The Forsyte Saga admits an ugliness people in general can't tolerate: to be born female has always meant to be sentenced from birth to a second-class life of some sort. God bless John Galsworthy and the 2002 showrunners for hitting us in the face with the TRUTH. Remember, the rape scene was filmed on 9/11. The cast, particularly Gina McKee and Damian Lewis, deserve respect for the sang froid necessary to continue on, at a time when the world was numb and nauseous.

It is STUNNING, how great an impact this IMDB decision has had on non-"virtual," beating-heart humans. Just look at Youtube videos on the subject for proof. I find myself wondering--because I regard the decision as ageist in the extreme--if the reverberations from the message board closing will not have a negative impact on the future of the internet itself.

It has already become a junk-mail trash bin where teenagers and the intellectually-challenged find mates to reproduce with.

Heartbreaking.

Hello, catbookss! The closing of the IMDb boards bothered me so much, and since then I've been looking at the new crop of boards trying to make a decision. When I saw this morning that The Forsyte Saga was trending here, I knew this was the place to be!

It's been two years since I watched it, and I need to dig in to it again to see all the subtleties I didn't on the first viewing!

I'm just happy to see this board active. It feels like the good old days on IMDb.

I will never get why IMDB closed their message boards. The bastards! But somebody was smart enough at least to save most of the threads and move them here.

Yeah, I was shocked and PEEVED. Insult to injury, they pulled the plug earlier than they said they would.

I've read lots of conspiracy theories as to why they did it, but I think it all boiled down to money -- couldn't figure out a way to monetize the boards enough to suit them, and on top of that, I understand Col Needham didn't like them, or rather us posters, either.

PlatinumScreen! Very glad to see you've made your way here, and Furienna of course too. I think Furienna was responsible for making The Forstyte Saga trend, judging by the new posts I'm seeing.

I haven't been around this board for a while, and need to make a point to regularly check in, now that there's more activity. It is feeling more like the good old days on IMDb here :)

Has it really been two years already? Please do dig in when ready and post your thoughts! This is one series I never tire of discussing, or reading what others have to say about it.

Hello, Catbookss! I agree it feels like the good old days, and in some ways even better! I think the trending list on the home page is a huge plus and drives traffic to boards that aren't about what's now in theaters. In fact, I started what I thought would be a little thread on the Richard Boone board that has turned into one of the most fascinating, educational, and analytical threads I've ever witnessed. That happened because of the trending board. On IMDb, this same thread would've remained dormant for eternity. IMDb should've thought of doing this, but did they even care to improve? I think not.

I saw Furienna trending on the 1967 Forsyte Saga board, so we appreciate her efforts in keeping all things Forsyte trendy!

I'll dig into viewing #2 in the near future and report back what I feel this time because I felt just about every emotion possible in viewing #1!
