In australia now [july 2005] Late-Nite, ignored.
has anybody got a DVD of the series?

I'm quite annoyed and frustrated that this hasn't ever had a DVD release. There's a VHS of the pilot episode and that's it. There are only 32 episodes, so surely it would make a good single box set release, or they could drag it out into two separate season releases. This sort of thing just promotes so-called 'pirate' releases.

I stumbled on it part-way through the Australian ABC late night showings and was very impressed - agreeing with the Aussie user review. Even in non-ratings periods they have never put it on at a decent viewing time - like before 10:30pm - and when repeated it was on well after midnight.

There are so many lesser quality old (& new) series now out on DVD, that not having access to this to show people who dismiss all TV just what is possible with good writing & acting is a poor show indeed. Indeed it reinforces their attitude - if anything good does somehow slip under the radar, it quickly gets buried.

Does anyone know any reason why there hasn't been any other VHS or DVD release; any problems with rights, etc?

PS: Anyone know why is the street "Centre", like our/UK spelling, not "Center", the US version?

reply

Centre is how the street is in fact spelled in Manhattan.

As for a DVD release, go to http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/
-it's a great source for DVD releases of tv shows, and you can even log a 'vote' for 100 Centre St.

Hell I've waited years for St. Elsewhere, and it's FINALLY coming so I have hope for this show. In the meantime I'll wear out my VHS tapes.

Thanks for the hint about tvshowsondvd. There's a few more things I'd like to keep an eye on.

I've been very happy this year (in a year where very little made me happy, with deaths, cancer treatment, huge bills, etc) to see that after many years where even a VHS wasn't available, that <i>"Oh! What a Lovely War"</i> (www.imdb.com/title/tt0064754/) has *finally* been released on DVD, like St Elsewhere. I hear it will get out to Australia Real Soon Now, but it was appropriately released in time for Remembrance/Armistice/Veterans' Day in the UK & USA.
That also might mean there's still hope for 100 Centre St.

I'd seen that the street name was spelt that way, but was wondering if there was some reason, apart from being maybe just a hang-over from an original spelling before all the "u"s were removed (favour, colour, honour, etc.) and "re"s reversed (e.g. lustre, spectre, metre (the length rather than the instrument)) to simplify American English. I think Noah Webster was heavily involved in that.

Hoping you've had a good Thanksgiving (assuming you're USian), and will have a Happy Christmas/December holiday of your choice :) - see www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW8p4DSD3d (NSFW - strong language).
