Who still thinks this movie was better than the first Pokemon movie?

Or hell, all of the Pokemon movies?

Sure this movie was stripped from the original and Americanized like hell, but I enjoyed it when I was younger. The beginning is still one of the most memorable things about the movie, it was so awesomely well presented.

The only real complaint I have it that the animation is okay. It reminded me of that "OH Canada" stuff they used to show on Cartoon Network, choppy animation that didn't remind me of anime at all. But eh, I can live with it.

Overall, it was a great movie to me reguardless.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I agree,

Im 25 and my brother is 10 years younger than me. When I was little my father took me to see Transformers the Movie. I repayed the favor to my dad 15 years later and took my brother to see 2 Pokemon movies and the Digimon movie. The Pokemon movies were kinda lame and boring, but I was impressed with the Digimon movie. It was funny, exciting, not to mention had awesome action sequences. Basically the only kids series movie that can hold a candle to TFTM.

.....

Eeh, dude, of course they don't and probably aren't. But they're both monsters that are used for battle, they were both popular, and they both had theatrical releases. That's why I compared the Poke movies to the Digi movie(s).

And I don't recall saying Pokemon digivolve and aren't as powerful in the previous post.

The first pokemon movie was one of the biggest disapointments of my young life (along with Sora ending up with Matt, I'll never get over that...) The first movie was boring and talky, and the advertised "greatest match of all time" was nothing more than a pathetic struggle between the pokemon and their thrones to an annoyign background music, cut in by the occasional bouncing of Mew and Mewtwo in those ball thingies. And what in the world was up with ash turning to stone? Lame lame lame. I'm sorry. After its all said and done, Pokemon the first doesn't even hold a candle to Digimon: The Movie. The second Pokemon was the best of the (how many pokemon movies are they up to now? 6?), but it still will never be as great as digimon.

4kids is mainly the reason why the movie sucked so bad, not the project itself, or the show for that matter. The whole "greatest match of all time" thing was all 4kids idea, they took something that was so little to the story and decided to turn it into some sort of WWF wrestling advertiser, the point of it was just trying to get everyone excited and hopes of bringing in more acton-crazed kids in. Like SABAN edited Digimon, 4kids changed pretty much all of the dialogue, some scenes, and every ounce of original theme music for the entire movie and replaced it all with pop songs and that "brother O' brother" song to make it look like 1970's hippie land with the "we shouldn't fight eachother" theme. In other words, this movie was supposed to be a tad bit more violent and dark than it should've been, so don't blame the project for some of it's noticable flaws, but the American network that made those flaws.

And what in the world was up with ash turning to stone? Lame lame lame. I'm sorry.

Well lets think about it.

We have two unknown psychic energies with different patterns, one genetically engineered and the other of more physical power, and if they were combined, it could have just triggered an un-stable feild in which has various effect on other forms of matter and life-forms. So when Satoshi(Ash) was zapped by it, I guess it changed his tissue into solid concrete.

However, if you were talking about all the Pokemon crying him back to life out of sorrow, then yes, I have to agree that it was quite corny. I suppose the writers were trying to go for an emotional, tearful ending and...just failed, and I can't explain how the tears brought him back to life, the answer to that is beyond me, no point in arguing here.

(how many pokemon movies are they up to now? 6?)

5 theatrical releases, if you were includng the "Mewtwo Returns" video, that was just a TV special that 4kids pretended to be some sort of direct-to-video movie. Digimon on the other never really made any theatrical projects, the so-called "movie" was just three TV movie specials edited together to make it seem theatrical and their stories were changed and had American writers come up with an adaption of their own to it's original. This pretty much explains why it was lacking quite a bit.

Yes, but this thread is about comparing the american Pokemon the 1st movie and the american Digimon movie. Even if the japanese version was darker and less talky, the american version wasn't. I've watched the commentary with the DVD version, and I was suprised by how much was changed. Misty's corny "Please No" she says when Ash is turned to stone replaced the japanese version's "My Bike", which I thought would have been a lot better.

Yes, I referring to the pokemon trying to wake him by crying on him. That was one of the lamest, failures to draw emotion I've seen. And the whole Ash turning to stone thing WAS lame anyway. That whole scene was a valiant attempt by the producers and writers to produce an emotional ending. However well intentioned it was, it failed in the long-run.

I don't care if the japanese digimon releases were not theatrical and only TV specials. Once again, we are comparing two american theatrical releases: Pokemon: The First Movie and Digimon: The Movie. I don't care how great either of them were in Japan. I'm going to stand by my previous case that Digimon: The Movie was better than Pokemon the First. Digimon had better characters, a better plot (Even if it did span three different times and completely start and end three times, it was not slow and boring like Pokemon's whole thing about clones and real pokemon) and infinately better fight scenes. Who payed 6 dollars to go watch clones and pokemon wrestle like Friday night at the WWE? Not me. Digimon's fights were fast paced and enjoyable. In my humble opinion, Digimon towers over Pokemon in this case.

Actually the thread only classified the pokemon movies as "the first pokemon movie" and "all of the pokemon movies", and didn't give any indication if it was refering to the American versions or not, so I just made some assumptions and decided to bring the original version into the discussion.

Sorry, my mistake.

I understand, like I said, the thread wasn't at all very specific on what pokemon versions it was refering to, so along came my assumptions. As for the "Digimon not theatrical" thing, sorry for it's un-necessary appearance, just thought I'd remind that Digimon didn't officially(from the original creaters) make it into theaters unlike pokemon did, I suppose I shouldn't have brought it up in the first place. It's just that everyone gets the wrong ideas these with these movies mainly because of it's flaws made by the american network that edited it, and as a struggling artist myself, I just hate to see somebody else's art get booed at because of a network's changes.

Nope, that's okay. The whole thing was kind of confusing. Sorry for any misunderstandings.

Dont worry about it. I'm just as mad as the next guy when it comes to american mainstream screwing up good anime.

Again, sorry about any misunderstandings. Good luck with your art! ^_^

Oh yes.

I hated Pokemon the First Movie (and this was when I was a big fan). On the other hand I liked Digimon. But since reading that the American version is messed up, I'm interested in watching the Japanese versions.

I think its a little bit of vice verca for what you said. The first part of the Digimon movie was cool. the part with the virus and the missiles was brilliant! But in the other bits with the new digidestined and koromon or Kokomon i can't remember but it was rubbish! I am probably going to get kicked around for saying this stuff but Pokemon is much better than Digimon!

P.S. In the uk people arent allowed to like pokemon because they would be uncool but we still watch it in secret. We just don't watch Digimon anymore because it's lost its charm.

I liked the 2nd part the best then 1st the 3rd was so lame.

and Pokemon movies just sucked I saw pokemon movie 3 when I was like 9 or 10 I wanted to strangle that little girl she got so annoying...

reply

Molly was annoying in the third film, but entei was even more annoying!

P.s. Pokemon rules!!!! Digimon suks!!!!

reply

I think all the Digimon movies are bad (and I've seen the japanese version). The show is WAY better. The Pokemon movies are a good representation of the series: lame, lamer, ultra-mega-lame.

reply

I think the Digimon Movie was way better than the Pokemon Movie. I didn't see the other Pokemon Movies but I'm sure they are just as dumb as the first.

The pokemon movie is just annoying. I saw it with my cousin and that part where all the pokemon cry to bring Ash back...ohhh how I laughed...it was lame. Digimon is better overall.
