In the television show, why could only Agumon and Gabumon go mega level?

Their were 8 digimon in the first series of digimon. But only 2 ever evolved to mega level, the other 6 never got past ultimate. Why was this? I can remember being realy dissapointed when the last episode happened, I thought they were all gunna go to their mega levels. In the film angemon and angewomon evolve to their mega levels for like 1 minute and they dont realy do anything.

oh! i know this one, only agumon and gabumon could digivolve to megas because:the partners of these digimon were matt and tai who each had younger siblings(kari and tk),now if you watched the show, your question is answered in the episode where myotismon(misspell)is battled,in which a prophecy is discovered, and the prophecy says something like arrows of hope and light(kari and tk's crests)will strike their loved ones and a miracle will happen. SO....when kari gets her crest and her and tk's digimon digivolve to those angels, they both strike matt and tai with their arrows, which enables agumon and gabumon to warp digivolve into their mega forms, saving tokyo. hope that helps, but really if you want to understand it fully, you need to watch all of season one(which is the greatest season ever, better than every season of pokemon combined).

I think they were originally planning on all the Digimon being able to go to their Mega forms, but then they realised how long the season would be running for if they did that.

For all the Digimon to have reached their Mega forms, it would have easily taken another six or seven episodes, and plus another two or three on top of that to make sure the Mega forms actually saw some use. And remember, when Augumon and Gabumon were able to reach their Mega forms, Patomon wasn't yet able to reach his Ultimate form.

The first season of Digimon was a very long season, even by the standards of kid's shows. It ran for something like forty or fifty episodes. Plus, the show already had gone through one filler arc by the time the Mega forms were introduced, so I don't think anyone involved on the show wanted to go through another.

They could have quite easily have extended it to a second season, but then they would have run into the problem that they didn't have enough plot to be able to make the two seasons even. Plus there would have been the problem that the Digimon were all at their Mega levels, so the heroes would have been able to completely outmatch most of the enemies they're likely to encounter unless they did something like the black towers that was there at the start of the actual second series.

This is not Sparta. This is much worse.

Like what Boplock said, Agumon & Gabumon were able to mega digivolve because Tai and Matt had their younger siblings who they care about + Patamon can digivolve into an fairy and Gatomon can digivolve into a fairy as well, so Kari & TK's Digimon are quite similar as well. It's maybe also because Agumon and Gabumon are the main Digimon or something.
