Angus beating a woman, possible spoiler

There was one scene in particular that really bothered me in .45 the scene when Angus Macfadyen's character beat up Mila's character. I was once in a relationship where my ex boyfriend thought it was ok to treat me that way. I of course got out of it, but I could not watch that scene, I had to leave the room until it was over and it was a very long scene I may like to add. It bothered me because it seemed like Big Al was based on my ex boyfriend and I don't want to look at Angus;who I may like to add woould never do that sort of thing, I would hope; and see my ex. I "love" Angus too much for that

reply

Yeah that was a bad scene. I thort Milla made it seem so real

Sorry to hear about your ex

reply

Men who beat woman are all the same,a$$ holes.
Your ex,Angus etc, there may be some differences in each individual but they are still all the same guy.

"we have magnums"

I agree completely, but to be honest I don't think Angus would really ever do that

Why must close-minded people always open their mouths?

reply

I have yet to see the movie, but I understand what you mean. The only thing about abusive relationships that maks no sense is the obvious question. Why do they stay with the abusers? I'm a male, but I also attempt to be on both sides of the fence as much as pssible...

I couldn't understand whether he was more angry at her because she was simply flirting or because the thug she was flirting with was spanish/latino. I mean he just went off on her screaming racial slurs and beating her senselessly, it was a really tough part to watch and I can't believe how messed up milla's face was afterwards.

reply

I agree.
It was difficult for me to watch. I'm a huge fan of Milla and watching something like that seemed too real. It helped me to understand more on abusive relationships, i hope it doesn't happen like that.

I know exactly what you mean, I'm a huge fan of Angus and it scared the living crap out of me to see him that way! But as I said before it was only a movie and only a character, I honestly don't think he'd ever treat a woman that way and if I ever found out he did, I'd be totally and utterly heart broken

That was a great scene.
Sad that there are sooo many male bullies that do that to females because it somehow makes them feel like a powerful man and not a pathetic lamer they are, but the scene itself was really well acted by both of them.

I think she's really grown as an actor. Her performance was remarkably good, especially the scene where she gets beaten. Hope she gains a little weight though.

Abuse is terrible and unforgivable - of that there is no doubt. I rejoice in the knowledge that the OP was able to get out of the relationship she was in before it became even more dangerous for her.

With that said, for the people on this thread that are ACTUALLY speculating or unsure of whether or not the actor playing this role is abusive in real life, do us all a favor and never ever see The Shining, Silence of the Lambs or any of its sequels, Requiem for a Dream, or in fact any movie whatsoever that deals with situations above a G rating because I fear you will all find separate reasons to jump out of windows based on something the characters are doing that you're afraid the actors are experienced with for real.

In fact, you might want to skip The Wizard of Oz too lest you hear rumors one day that the woman playing the witch casts spells on small dogs for real, LOL
