Why did Sofia treat David SO HORRIBLY After the Accident?

SPOILERS

After the accident that almost killed David, he approaches her to go out for a drink and at the club she acts terrified of him. I know they only spent one night together, but we forget how magical and in synch the two of them were. It was an evening that allowed us to see a softer side of David, and Sofia obviously was catching feelings because in the morning after he leaves, she gets all gaga on her couch. Why then, did she dismiss him so cruelly? "I will tell you in another life, when we are both cats?" HUH? Sounds like she's a flake.

I also think Sofia might have harbored resentment towards Cruise's character because why would he get into some blonde woman's car minutes after leaving Sofia's house and acting like he was a changed man? The movie goes in and out of reality and the dream sequences, but it failed to show us why Sofia acted rude to him. Same goes for Bryan. Bryan dissed his best friend, blabbed to Cameron Diaz about the fuck buddy conversation, and has no feelings at all that Cruise's face was crunched in the crash - and he almost died. Only after his suicide did Bryan throw a memorial service. What about the months before that?

I’m guessing maybe she thought David was coming on too desperate when he kept calling her on the phone after he came to visit her at her dance studio and was harassing her while drunk at the night club. She may in some ways have felt responsible for his accident since Julie would not have caused the car accident if David didn’t get together with Sophia at her place.

Because she was shallow and wanted a charming prince but the prince was not charming anymore.

She couldn't cope with the disfigurement. It wasn't just what he did, going with another woman, as she knew he was a playboy. He had lost his handsome face and looked well.. disfigured. He had his faults but man was she mean as hell to treat him like that.

Well, of course. But also remember that Sofia explained to David that she had tried repeatedly to see him but "his people" wouldn't let her. I think the time and distance allowed her to also reflect and absorb the fact that he immediately jumped into a car with another girl for a fling upon leaving her place after the "magical" night they spent together. She never forgot about that night and the promise of what it might bring, but his disfigurement was a blatant reminder of the consequences of his decision making. A decision that excluded her and any feelings she imagined he had for her. A betrayal in other words.

This one is a bit easier. David treated his friend horribly. He blatantly interfered in Bryan's life by hitting on Sofia, the girl that Bryan thought could "really really be the one." Bryan, drunk and depressed, spilled his guts out to Julie. Running into Julie in that moment was a bit too much no doubt and a reminder of how easily David uses and discards "dream girls" as "fuck buddies." Bryan's dream girl was Julie. Bryan's ultimate girl was Sofia. David took them both.

I'm not sure I understand the objection to Bryan waiting to throw a memorial service after David died.

That's usually when memorial services occur isn't it? AFTER the death?

Acts terrified of him? All she did was look a bit caught off guard. Considering he looks like Quasimodo and this is the first she's seeing him since the accident, that should be expected.

Also, he's been ignoring the girl (and everyone else) for months, despite her trying to get in touch with him and his people turning her away. Nevertheless, she remains understanding towards this. And even agrees to go out on a date with this man who she only hung out with once (months ago).

As for dismissing him with the "I will tell you in another life when we're both cats" scene, it must be kept in mind his behavior before this bit. David wasn't being friendly during their night out. He spent most of his time at the bar drinking shots, staring at Sofia and Brian from afar.

His insecurities were tormenting him to the point that it was making him overly defensive and aggressive. And when he finally does approach Sofia, she again attempts to get along with him. But he drunkenly makes things uncomfortable by bringing up how they mocked Julie the night before she killed herself and disfigured David. Clearly, this topic bothered Sofia. Not only does she feel overwhelmed with sympathy for David (as he seems very pitiful), but she was also the reason Julie got jealous in the first place. So there's probably a bit of guilt in there, as well. David could see in her face that she was upset and relentlessly began interrogating her. She said she didn't want to talk about it right now (surrounded by people) but she would later. He wouldn't stop hounding her, though. So she dropped that line you mentioned to shut him up.

As far as Brian goes, he was drunk when he blabbed to Julie and had just had David steal his date. It happens. He handled the situation better than most would. Later, Brian seemed to be trying his best to get along with David despite his behavior. The thing he seemed most upset about was having not heard from David all this time. He was clearly trying to be a good friend.
