Compared to original

How do you guys think this compares to the original? Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) https://moviechat.org/tt0125659/Open-Your-Eyes

I think it was a really good remake and I'm glad they didn't wait too long to release an English version of the movie... It really captures the feeling of the Spanish version, gets most if not all of the concepts the themes and has a great cast... It's not a replacement for the Spanish original, but a lot of people wouldn't have known about it otherwise...

Cruise was solid in this... as was Cruz...

I wholeheartedly agree. I love this movie. And the original as well.

I wasn't aware it was a remake. But I get why they say "open you're eyes" in vanilla sky now ☺

I liked both of them, but I think I liked Vanilla Sky a bit better.

So the original and the remake complement each other well?

reply

Worth watching both if you've liked either

reply

Yes, most definitely. Penelope Cruz plays the same character in both.

reply

Yes I believe they do. It was very interesting to see the different ways the same material was treated.

I saw the original first and loved it! I saw they were remaking it, and I was interested b/c I like Tom Cruise. I love Vanilla Sky. It was a really good remake, IMO. I think both movies are great!

The original is way better. This movie way too melodramatic, explanatory and boring. The original was suspenseful and clever. This movie was a Tom Cruise egofest.

I like both but I think Vanilla Sky benefits having a higher budget so it's a little unfair. In the original, I didn't get the sense that he was that rich and self-entitled. Everything just seemed more technically advanced in Vanilla Sky. Look at Tom Cruises condo compared to the place in the original. Even the "Life Extension" building was more furnished and looked like a high end place. Again, both are great movies though. I just feel like a bigger budget in Abre Los Ojos would have made me connect with the story more.
