They left out some key elements

Such as Ram rejecting Sita once freeing her, because she had lived in another man's home.

She walks through fire to prove she's pure, so Ram takes her back. They return to rule Ram's kingdom. Sita gets pregnant.

One day Ram overhears a man in the city speaking to his adulterous wife, "Do you think I am like Ram that I'll take you back after you've been with another?"

Ram banishes a pregnant Sita to live in the woods, believing his people think less of him if she remains. She gives birth and teaches her sons to love Ram. Ram happens upon his sons and decides to take them back with him.

Ram feels like a dick for doing this and tells Sita she can return if she once again proves her purity.

She basically flips him the bird and returns to the Earth, unable to cope with her emotional pain any longer.
