Was Gus a little overbearing at times?

I wonder if Gus was a little overbearing at times since he was a good father but I wonder why is that he seemed a little prejudiced against non greeks since Toula only loved Ian.

Of course he was overbearing. That's what made him so funny, and even more funny when he was outgunned over Toula going to school and tricked into letting her work at the travel agency.

A LITTLE overbearing???? Are ya kidding? He was The Boss and that was that and when he didn't get his own way, he cried!! What the heck? He adored his children, no doubt, but felt (like many Mediterranean fathers) that their lives should be run by him as long as he was alive!

welcome to the mediterranean, middle eastern and asian father mindset. that's how they are. it's rare to have a laid back father in these communities

He was way too overbearing. Toula was 30 and he really had no right to tell her what to do. She wasn't a child anymore.

On the other hand, Toula could have moved out when she was a young adult.

First generation Greeks very rarely move out while unmarried. Almost every Greek (with parents who were born in Greece) lives at home until marriage.
