Can Windex really cure poison ivy and sroasis?

I wonder if Windex can really cure Poison Ivy and Sroasis like Gus mentioned in the film or is that just made up for laughs.

It's a mix of solvents, so I bet it would work to clean off poison ivy oil right after exposure. I think it would also dry out your skin and make it feel worse though. Psoriasis is a whole different monster and caused by your own immune system. I don't see how applying alcohol or ammonia would help.

And pimples? Inseck bites?

Oddly enough, it actually worked wonders when I was bitten by a spider. After I came in from weeding my grandma's garden, my whole left arm broke out into this scarlet lacy rash. My Greek Orthodox aunt came in and (no joke) soaked my arm in Windex. Within 10 minutes, it stopped itching and hurting and after half an hour, was gone entirely.

You made me actually laugh out loud. I'm glad it work for you. lol

Your story is hilarious! And it actually worked! Question - is the Windex thing really a Greek remedy for various ailments? I don't why, but I always sort of assumed that the dad did that as a personal quirk, not as a stereotypical Greek solution to a problem.

We don't have windex in Greece. The most popular equivellant would be Azax, also a blue-coloured glass/surface cleaner and I never saw or heard of anyone ever using it for any medicinal purposes.

Funnily enough though, blue-coloured methylated spirit is very popular in Greece, and we call it oinopneuma (pronounced e-NO-pnevma) and is widely used for a home remedy for colds (among other thngs) called ventouzes (pronounced ve-DOO-zes).

Here's a video.

Thank goodness that spider was not poisonous. Did you go to the doctor anyway? I just saw the movie today, but never heard about using Windex in a medical sense. I think I will stick to ointments, alcohol, and peroxide for bug bites and other matters.

I can’t stand the stench of Windex.

Windex has ammonia in it, which is A POISON. Only idiots and assholes apply Windex to a human being.
