barbara hershey...

is it just me, or is she amazingly hot for a woman in her 50's... i mean she looks like she's more in her mid 30's than mid 50's...

also so who was the gay guy having an affair with which married man then??

and why was geoffrey rush so distant from his wife, if he wasn't having an affair with anyone...

why did that gay guy try to make hershey's character think that it was her husband that he was having an affair with...?

I agree! Barbara Hershey was looking very good in this film. She's got a very seductive, mature beauty. The lighting in the film made her appear very natural and attractive in my humble opinion.

The gay man was having an affair with the guy with the beard; the same one that the detectives barge in on at his apartment. You can also see him in a coffee shop with his family, while his lover stands outside watching them from across the street. This married man wasn't in the story as a main character (I don't think he even had any dialogue in the whole film). I guess this is so you would be lead in the direction that Barbara Hershey was going (that Rush was the cheating husband).

The whole Geoffrey Rush affair subplot was not true. The main reason for the unhappiness of their marriage, and his subsequent distance from his wife, was due to the loss of their daughter (this is explained in a scene towards the end when La Paglia visits him after Hershey dies).

I don't think that the gay man was misleading Hershey at all. I think he was just telling his story to his shrink, and she was drawing her own conclusions and somehow thought that it might be Rush. After all, he was fooling around with some woman's husband....why not hers?

Overall, a very solid film all around. This isn't normally my cup of tea, but the characters and the plotlines were interesting enough to keep me engaged.

the thing is the guy talking to the shrink, the way he was talkin it was almost like he was threatening her...

it was bit anti climactic when it turned out the whole thing was just an accident that happened...

I really love the film Lantana and would like a copy of the script. Could you please tell me where I could download a copy from. I have looked extensively but can only find major Hollywood film scripts to download. Regards Eileen

Barbara was looking exceptionally good in this film, I also enjoyed pervin' Kerry Armstrong's melons :)

Well I was having more fun 'pervin' Geoffrey Rush actually!

It's a Geoffrey Rush thing, you wouldn't understand! Captain of Team Barbossa

I thought Patrick was trying to make the shrink believe he could have been having an affair with her husband as well.
I also sensed a sort of misogyny with Patrick's character - don't know whether anyone else did. It was as if he despised the female shrink for being the same sex as his lover's troublesome wife.
(Hope I'm making sense?)

There's an art to making love. And you don't even have a paintbrush.

barbara hershey looks fantastic in this film (speaking as a b.h. fan). and, i think it's mostly due to the way she's lit by the cinematography, and the wardrobe they chose for her. reminded that i need to look her up on i.m.d.b. to see what projects she's involved in these days.

i agree with what the poster one or two posts previous to this said about kerry armstrong, also. although, i wouldn't say that i'm "pervin'" by appreciating the actresses good looks. and, it might be because she's australian (and not seen very often on tv sets here in the u.s.) that i can't recall seeing her in anything other than "lantana."

both actresses characters are well-written, in a very involving film, in general. seems to me that i've seen a few australian films that have been very proficient at carrying the kind of mood that this one has.

I agree Hershey was very nice looking for her age, at first I thought she was a bit strange looking but as it went on I found her really attractive and she's old enough to be my grandmother! lol. A word has to go to Kerry Washington too she was really hot, it's also the first time I've seen her in a film, is there anything else she's in worth watching?

As said by previous posters about your next two questions, the guy he was having an affair with was just a random unexplored character and I think that Rush did love his wife but after their daughter died they just drifted apart.

It's an interesting question about the guy making her think it was her husband, but I honestly don't think he did. He just told her the way it was but she was paranoid because of the situation with her husband and just got it into her head that it could of been him. It was obvious they didn't get on very well, perhaps it bothered Hershey as well that he was gay? Just a thought.

Anyway, I only watched this film for the first time a couple days ago, it's been on my shelve for ages, I thought it was fantastic and one of the best dramas I've seen for ages. It reminded me a bit of Closer and an another Australian film: Jindabyne (also directed by Ray Lawrence), with Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney, which I'd recommend, a really disturbing and well acted drama, although I'd say Lantana is overall a better film.

The married but cheating on his wife actor was Lani Tupu, formerly on FARSCAPE as the voice of Pilot and the insane military commander Bialar Crais.
