Why didn't she just...

...put a piece of paper on the table and write on it with a pen "our baby is in the village near the waterfall in that photo I sent you!" I mean, really, she could load a wardrobe with 30 or 40 items of clothing on coat-hangers, take a glass paperweight out of a box and unwrap it, draw wavy crosses in spilt soil and on dirty windows! In fact why cover the windows in wavy crosses? Why not just bloody write on the window???

Still it's a good film, even brought a tear to me eye.

A thread that shows up later on this board entitled "If She Could" has a few good explanations.

I've often wondered why spirits need to mess with us in round about ways to get their point across.

Maybe they're just bored...

Well why didn't lock on and beam the baby out star trek style?

Because its a movie that was over an 1hr 30 mins not 20 seconds! lol

Our "knowledge" of the way the dead communicate with the living is based on seances and spiritualist readings by mediums. It is more profitable for such mediums to give vague information which can be seized on by the credulous and interpreted as meaningful, rather than precise details which might be easily proved false. Hence the tradition that the dead only talk in riddles.

If she were more direct, there would be no story.
