If you wanna be ignorant, take your comments somewhere else.
Jay-Z, DMX, Beanie Sigel etc. are talented artists, idgaf what type of music you listen to, have some respect for this art form.

Alright child, I'm gonna bless you and talk to you for a minute...

a) Not all rap is "angry, tough and aggressive." You've obviously never heard of Talib Kweli, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, Blu, Kendrick Lamar, even Kanye West and countless other names that I could spit out in a moment's notice. So cut it out with that "Oh, I'm not ignorant because I listen to BLACK artists." Race plays a big role in hip-hop, but you think its a primary one; son, not only are you ignorant, but your whole idea of hip-hop music is based on an outmoded, inconclusive and biased stereotype.

b) I'm sorry that you have a problem with "anger" music. I'm not gonna sit here and debate with you if your 70's music was "angry." I don't care, kid. "Anger" is an emotion. Some hip-hop songs convey that. Sorry if that clashes with whatever the f--k you're doing.

Music was always a "good times business"...toronto_kid, please, you're acting like an idiot. Calm the f--k down before you try and talk to me and get your information straight before you cop to how equal opportunity your iPod playlist is.

Because, frankly, I wasn't even speaking on race, but you're the child who brought it up as a main issue.

Ether'd.

here we go again, another internetter talking from behind his ass cheeks. let's see if you have the balls to read this message.

rap is much ado about NOTHING
what you meant to say was, all the hip hop music that has found its way to YOUR ears/eyes is much ado about nothing. s*hit, in that aspect i'd probably agree with you...but if you'd care to pull away from the slaving Viacom outlets, you'd get a sense of what Rap as one of the 5 elements of the Hip Hop culture truly represents, and should sound like.

Ice-T (you may have heard of him through the tv cop show Law & Order, lol) directed a documentary recently called 'Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap'. i would recommend that as a visual starter reference to genuine comprehension of what Rap is -- but why the f*uck would you care?! you're just a troll on imdb, out to bash anything and anyone that doesn't share your (ltum) interests. put me in the 'fool' category if i were to dare you'd ever challenge your ignorance.
why did you even watch Backstage in the first place?? see, if your comment was limited to criticism of this doc, we may have possibly had more things in common than not, because truthfully, its not my favorite. but you used the content of this doc to brand the entire genre...i'm sensitive about that..
...and yeah, to answer your question, i do believe in Rap, moreso Hip Hop. as an art medium that pushes the boundaries of lyricism, as the most influential cultural phenomenon in the last 30 years, and most importantly, the ONLY genre that attracts the highest diversity worldwide.....that means bringing people together. what do you believe in? i wanna give you a chance to declare your preferred music.

anyway, lemme not forget the facepalm of a message you responded with.
porn has way more hits than casablanca
genius! the difference is, porn and the film Casablanca aren't even of the same format! let alone caliber. one has a taboo regard in society at best, and the other is revered as a filmmaking masterpiece. you're making me feel like i'm picking on a little kid! LOL. the point is, Jay-Z (he's a rapper) ACHIEVED what only a legend like Elvis Presley was able to attain until recently (maybe you think that's a talentless task).

what i believe has never crossed your mind is the fact that "Rap" created jobs and an outlet for a portion of society that had been forgotten. like the doc says, "something from nothing", nowadays General Mills can't even sell Cheerios without a "Rap" influence, and i'm banking that the advertising manager at General Mills doesn't think "rap is much ado about nothing". tell me what you do as an occupation day-to-day, and i'll find you a rap connection ltum.

there's a part of me that thinks when you say "rap", you are solely referring to certain songs more than the artform as a whole, its just so hard to tell though when both your previous posts are dripping in oblivion.

hopefully you learned, or care to learn something...i'm here bro.
