What was with Shendu sensing a tailsman at the North Pole. Season 1.

I think the Horse one was found at the North Pole. But if I had to give the award for the most stupidest place to hide a talisman, it would go to the Tiger one. I mean really?! The Tiger talisman was in a pie at a pie eating contest?!
