Inspiration for the show
Was this show partially based on the Jackie Chan movie, "Rumble in the Bronx?"

shareNah, i always figured it was Jackie Chan's Armor Of God and Operation Condor that were the main influences for the animated series! I don't see where Uncle and Jade come in though from those films, perhaps they were all new creations or were different nods to characters in his other films that reference Jackie's other martial art movies both in China and the U.S.

In one of the "Hey Jackie!" segments, Jackie said that Jade was inspired by several little girls he had met. He said something about Uncle in that segment as well, but I can't remember what it was.
shareThats right. I think he said Tohru's character was based off a bodyguard of his

The life of Jackie Chan

Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel . . .
I realize that this thread is really old... But I'll answer anyway.
The good characters (Jade, Uncle & Toru) were based on people in Jackie Chan's life. Jade is based on his niece, Uncle is an old teacher of his and Toru was a bodyguard.
The show itself has touches of various of Chan's movies (Armor of the Gods, Project A etc)
However, the basic concept is based on various american movies that Chan himself loved so much. The most notable one is Indiana Jones. That's why Chan in the show is an archaeologist.
