who should play corto maltese

I've been thinking and couldn't find a satisfactory guy to play Corto Maltese, maybe Colin Farell. What do you think?

reply

No, he couldn't do justice to Corto's unmimicable style.

On the other hand... Christian Bale would be GREAT !

reply

I think it should be a french film, so anyone who looks as mush as possible like drawn Corto. I think ive read somewhere that he was based on Burt Lancaster and Lawrence of Arabia

reply

As a French viewer, I was disappointed by every recent attempt at a local big-budget movie ("Crimson Rivers", "Arsène Lupin", "Vidocq", "Asterix and Obelix" you name it), which turned out shallow and mediocre at best. So I'm not so eager to see a French big-budget "Corto Maltese" adaptation.

Besides, I can't see right now any French actor with a physical resemblance with Corto and enough talent to play his role. Pray they do NOT choose Vincent Cassel...

reply

I agree that the mentioned films were, well childish at least (i didn't watch Arsene L.) but i would still like it if the film was in french, no matter whose production it was. I don't speak french but i still feel that that Corto Maltese magic would be lost if it was in english. Maybe sometime in the future... I would rather if the film was newer made than if it was made badly.

reply

I agree with that - better no Corto movie at all than a bad Corto movie. I'm not sure about the choice of language. But given that the Corto character is of various nationalities and origins - including British - I thought that a non-French actor could fit in the role.

reply

I read somewhere that Viggo Mortensen had been considered...although I don't see him as a sailor? after he has been riding so much on horses...

I could imagine Sean Bean with a little bit darker hair and some sideburns...

reply

Its a shame peter o'toole got old, he would have been perfect.

reply

I like Mortensen, but isn't he a bit too old for the role ?

reply

Many people are suggesting Sagamore Stévenin here. For the physical ressemblance, it's ok... For the rest, maybe... ;-)

reply

Goran Visnjic might be a nice choice.

He was considered for a bond role, too, one of the last 3 candidates, but in the end lost because he's not british.

he's from Zadar, a mediterranean city - like Corto.

reply

Maybe too late but, I think the only one who fits is Pierce Brosnan. What do you think?

reply

mark wahlberg has a the face for Corto Maltese, and I think we all agree who should play Rasputin definetly Rade Serbedzija (Boris the Blade from Snatch)

reply

Sherbedzhija is too old for the role.

but i wouldn't mind, since he's from Croatia too, like Vishnjich :D

Mor

reply

I know I repeat Brosnan but Sherbedzhija and him seem to me a perfect but a bit old couple of main characters

(DAMN!!; I´ve edited a photo of each of them (taky, I must admit...) but can´t post them)

reply

what do you mean you can't post them?

you can't upload them or what?

Mor

reply

can´t put them on these posts. But don´t worry. They aren´t good at all.

Bruce

reply

Sherbedzhija is old but he has a cunning face which resmbles with Rasputin

reply

i still don't understand where the problem is.

you can just copy links to the images.

Mor

reply

"the problem is": that as they are edited (changed by myself) there is no link. They´re on my computer. And the funny thing is that I just put on them Rasputins hair and beard and Corto´s clothes, earring and hair aswell... But you can use your imagination.

reply

don't you know how to upload pics?

Mor

reply

to a forum? no
but if you can let me know how

reply

you can upload your pics on some of these sites:
imageshack.us, tinypic.com, photobucket.com, etc.

then you get a link to the internet locartion of the pic, which you copy/paste here

Mor

reply

Thanks a lot. Finally! I hope they don´t disappoint you after all.

Rasputin - http://tinypic.com/k2bypy.jpg

reply

Shall I think that you didn´t like them or something?

reply

Oh my god i just realsized, its so obvious - DANIEL DAY LEWIS!!!!!!

reply

Yeah, he could perfectly, but I still think that Brosnan´s eyes (more mature) get Corto´s looks. But I find your choice as good as Brosnan´s.
Look:

reply

Nice mock-up, brosnans a good one too, but maybe a little old? Lewis still retains a bit of a baby face. i just hope they get someone like Anthony Mingella to direct it, it needs to be beutiful but with a sense of humour.

reply

sorry, i didn't think you're expecting a reply.

the pics are fine, i like rasputin better: messy hair=casual way of drawing it

Mor

reply

I agree Visnjic could be good Corto. Although u made mistake, Serbedzija is half Serbian, half Croatian. He d be even better Rasputin. By the comic book, Corto is half English, half Gypsy, with high Meditarenian (Maltese) influence, just a bit taller. I suppose good actor from these regions would fit him best, ratrher than French or American. However if Johnny Depp was taller he'd be good. He s got that nonchalance and style..

reply

i made no mistake.

i said he's from craoatia, and not that he's a croatian (or serbian), actually i did that just to avoid this kind of reply from someone, stupidly thinking that a fact like his birth location won't cause a reply.

silly me...

Mor

reply

i kak sad to dokazuje da je on hrvat ?

reply

Rade Serbedzija declared himself a Croat.

------------------------------------

reply

Daniel Day Lewis!

Who mentioned Christian bale? That would be great as well.

reply

The danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royal, King Arthur) would do great, I think... Oh, apart from his bad english accent.

But I think Keanu Reeves (think of Constantine) and Christian Bale would do grat aswell.

reply

Aren't they a bit young and lacking charm?

reply

Olivier Martinez could do, too bad his french accent is too thick.
Gerard Butler could be a good Rasputin I think.
Anyone thought about italian actors? Afterall, Pratt was italian.

reply

i think that Daniel Day lewis is great choice for Corto and Sherdzebija for Rasputjin. And why are you arguing where he's from? that's just stupid if you ask me.

Gerard Butler isn't bad for Rasputjin,also...

reply

It is the centuries old Serb-Croat rivalry. There is a war because of this in the 90's. Serbs claimed that Croats are Serbs. So they tried to turn it into reality, but they failed. Serbedzija is a great actor who may be ethnically Serb, but after the breakup of Yugoslavia decided that he should side with the country where he was born, not the one which attacked it. So he declared himself a Croat and it should be respected.

------------------------------------

reply

Can't say that I blame him, who would want to be Serb these days. They kinda did piss poor PR job for themselves past few decades.

reply

Edward Norton is too soft, I think.

Gerard Butler as Rasputin would be great. Maybe Hugh Jackman as Corto ?

I'm a big fan of Korto and this is the most perfect physical resemblance that I've ever seen. Also, he IS a good actor. Someone should give him a chance.

Anyway, I personally don't want to see a Hollywood "A-lister" in that part. NOT that I have something against those guys, though, so please don't bother to reply in such manner.

And who should be that "Someone"? Director, I mean. Only question more important than the "actor" one. I would love to see Fernando Meirelles, or Guillermo del Toro, or Terry Gilliam...Someone who can put a aura of mystique in the movie.
