More movies depicting this particular historical period?

Is anybody aware of other movies set in the period of decadence of the Roman empire? Thanks a lot for any hints on this.

I Think NONE of the movies u are reffer to are set in the 5th century A.D. The century of the decadence of the roman empire.
The only other which is set in the same century is another version of attila from 1954 starring anthony quin as attila.

Sorry, I missed read that...I thought he meant movies about the roman time period in general.

In that case, after the fall the of Roman Empire, in Arabia another world changing phenomenom was occuring. Not exactly Roman but similar time period give or take a century, check out "The Message" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074896/

And from my understanding, in the fictionous film "King Arthur", supposely takes place towards the falling of the Roman empire also...

Well, THE MESSAGE is set just before the islamic invasions of the 7nth century in the eastern roman provinces and ends with the prophet's death but yes, is set in the period of another decadence of the empire and yes also KING ARTHUR is set in the 5th century but do u know any earlier movie which is set in the 5th or the 7nth century ?

reply

To my knowlege, no. But searching around I also found "The Fall of the Roman Empire" flic back from '64.

THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (1964) has a misled title because is set in the glorius for rome 2nd century A.D when rome was powerfull and strongest than ever and of-course no empire started to fell apart with the death of commodus in the 31rst of december 192. Soon strong rule returned when severus became emperor in the following year and a new golden era emerged until the assasination of one of the severu's grandsons the emperor alexander severus in 235.

If it's the decadence you want rather than a particular era, then you don't get more decadence than Caligola. Be warned though, it's a pretty bad movie.

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

lol...if its that bad...i definatley want to see it!

If I am correct the version from 1954 is starring the late Jack Palance as Attila in the Douglas Sirk movie "Sign of the Pagan". His performance was brilliant, with Jeff Chandler as his roman adversary.
The version with Anthony Quin is probably made later. The two of them joined together in the epic "Barabbas".

There are TWO more movies on Attila's period?! Now I gottan track that pair down!

"lol...if its that bad...i definatley want to see it!"

Well, first you're going 'WTF!' and laughing. Then you're going 'WTF' in a 'what are they going to do next?' kinda way.

Then it's just 'WTF' in a 'how many minutes does this thing go on for?' way, the sort of slow, anxious despair normally reserved for boring social events or viewings of 'Manos: The Hands of Fate.'

There's apparently a lot of porn in it, but it was mostly cut out of the version I saw. From what I've heard, I doubt it would have helped.

Caligola is one of those films where looking up its troubled developments is more entertaining than actually watching the film itself. But hey, every bad movie lover should watch it once, if only to say they have.

"in the period of decadence of the Roman empire" was pretty much from about Julius Caesar on... but I saw that you mean specifically 5th AD

that time period is very under represented in film... Gladiator is set in 180 AD and was arguably at Rome's height

Agora (2009) is set from about 390AD til 415AD in Alexandria and is interesting in that it shows the downfall of Paganism and Greek academia there under Rome's rule.. very good film

For true decadence watch "I Claudius"
