Explanation...?

So what happened at the end? Was he dreaming the whole time or what?

It's been since the film came out that I saw this but I seem to remember that it wasn't suppose to be a dream. The problem with this film was it's all over the place and can be very hard to follow. That is my memory of it.

****SPOILER WARNING****

Yep its a dream, in the end he wakes up and everything is ok. Then he goes into his daughters bedroom and says something like "its ok darling its just me, daddy" then closes the door behind him.

A pretty full on movie, one you are not likely to forget.

So let me get this stright: none of the events of the movie took place at all, right?

And yes it was very disturbing.

reply

Well, I think the dream was because he feels guilty about what he's been doing to his daughter, but he can't stop. This movie reminded me a lot of DC Vertigo, particularly Sandman. I could almost picture this in comic book form.

reply

No, it's a flashback.

He molested his daughter.

The reason he felt such emotion for her was because he *beep* her. We're supposed to feel bad for him beause of he guilt of losing his daughter and how he was affected by it.... until the last scene when we realized he was a bad person himself.

Except they gave that away before the movie was half-over. That's the thing about twist-endings; they don't work when you tell you audience what the twist is NEAR THE BEGINNING!!!!

or he is shot & dies, & his own personal happy-ending fairytale afterlife is being able to continually molest his daughter without any consequences.
