Total confusion...

Did he die at the end or did he get better? I have heard both opinions and I think he lived but I'm not sure...

At the end of the film it says that he survived his ordeal and that he was a able to convey his story to others about survival and life.....something along those lines but it said he survived his ordeal. I am going with the thought that he lived!

it says he "survived his ordeal" and something about facing death and teaching others to live. i think he died...but he survived the trial. in the end i think he was able to die peacefully and knowing that he had finished his goals. but the way it words it makes it sound like he doesn't make it...

The confusion is in the fact that in the original version, he does in fact die. However, there was a re-edit done when the film was bought and the version where he lives i sthe one that has aired on cable.

Okay, that makes sense! I saw it today, and it says he lived, but when he's dancing in the mall he looks a little different- it must have been from when they re-shot the end of the movie later on?

Well, in the book, he dies. I was kept that way in the film. Lifetime bought the film and most likley decided it needed a happy ending. There was no re-shooting just creative editing.

I just watched the movie on tv and it had the ending where he lives. But it's totally confusing because the scene just before that was COMPLETELY set up for a dramatic death. Then, with no explanation, we see a scene set 6 months later and the girlfriend is back at her job and looking a little down. Then she looks up and he's at the top of the escalator. And my mind-set was; she's reliving a memory from when he was alive. Then it turns out that he's alive and the whole movie becomes a little unreal. Very awkward.

Yeah I just watched it and I totally thought he died and she was just remembering him, because they used the shots from the beginning where he's playing around on the escalator. But then it said he survived, and so I was majorly confused and also disappointed because if he did survive that was a very unsatisfactory way to end it. Actually either way it was not a good conclusion, but it was worse for if he survived because I felt like I needed more than just 'he's on his deathbed and we're sure he's gonna die then all the sudden- guess what he survived! The end'
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm writing this when I should be sleeping :D
