how is paul bettany's preformance?

I absolutely LOVE this actor. I haven't seen this movie yet and I just want to know how good Bettany is

He's fantastic. You know he's supposed to meet up with a band of actors, right? so there's parts where he becomes an actor in the movie, and he's acting like a bad actor. There's also a sex scene at the very beginning of the movie, starring him, and some redhead. Steamy!

reply

haha, some red head who shall remain nameless and forgotten. It's all about Paul Bettany of course.

Sounds awsome now all I have to do is find the move.

Yes, I think she may just be a local from one of the filming locations in Spain. There's not much about her on her IMDB page. Paul really steals the movie from Willem Dafoe... But what do you expect from a guy who's last big role was "Water World." I can't understand why they credited Da Foe before Bettany on the Cover.

I got my copy from.. Like blockbuster I think... $5.99.

reply

Dafoe wasn't in Waterworld. And you obviously never saw Spiderman as he played the Villian in it. Not to mention the long long list of films that he's been in over the years. They guy is a great actor.

reply

It's true that IMDB does not credit Dafoe in waterworld, but watch it yourself, and you WILL see him. He is easily recognizable from both his face, and voice. Of course, I don't blame him for pretending he wasn't in that movie. As for his acting ability, I feel that Bettany is better.

reply

The Actor that your thinking of is named Gerard Murphy who is credited. Willim Da Foe was not in Waterworld. You guys need to pay better attention.

reply

As far as DaFoe, what about Boondock Saints?

reply

Great. Movie.

Great. Character.

Paul Bettany is amazing in this movie. I am enthralled with the simple beauty of the film and his heart-wrenching performance as a fallen priest...he's a fabulous actor and this movie was a pleasant surprise.

Him and Dafoe carry the movie but Bettany has most of the best scenes. I was disappointed with Cox and Cassel, who really did not give his best performance. I'd rather have seen Tcheky Karyo than Cassel in this part.

reply

Bettany is absolutly amazing
as always thats why he is one of my favorite actors, after johnny Depp but he is 2nd on my list, soo hes is brilliant and may i add HOT!!

I thought Bettany did a horrible job in this movie. I have liked him in other things (A Beautiful Mind) so I was shocked that he did such a bad job. The dramatic scenes he was in were horribly overacted. I've never seen a more unbelievable death scene in my life. The acting was so bad I actually ended up laughing through his death scene. I really felt that his acting was the weakest part of the movie, and it would have been better if Willem Dafoe had played his part as it did require a lot of dramatic talent. I guess it may have been bad direction from the director that caused his overacting, but either way, it ruined the movie for me. And I thought this movie had a lot of potential, but the ending wasn't handeled well (the way we figure out who the murderer is and the way he is brought to justice was just skipped over in a matter of seconds and those scenes should've been some of the most dramatic of the movie), and as I said I thought Bettany over acted to the extent that it ruined the dramatic scenes he was in. It's nothing personal, just what I thought and felt while watching the movie.

I am so sorry about giving that away! I obviously wasn't thinking. It really won't make much of a difference while watching the movie though. There is no real tension or suspense built around the plot twist I just gave away. It has no real bearing on the main story. It was actually a very useless death, and had no real purpose that I could see. I thought the cast of extras in the movie did an excellent job, and the setting was lovely. I loved the King's Justice! I couldn't tell if he was going to turn out to be a good guy or a bad guy, and trying to figure it out was kind of fun.

I hope you enjoy the movie. It wasn't a bad movie at all, but I thought it could've been much better. A movie that should be excellent but is only good disappoints me much more than a movie that is just plain bad.

Ah! The King's Jusice is none other than Matthew Macfadyen...Darcy in Pride & Prejudice 2005, and star of MI-5/Spooks, etc.

I'm a big fan of Willem Dafoe, Matthew Macfadyen, and Paul Bettany. I loved Bettany in A Beautiful Mind, and Wimbledon, but I love him in these intense dramatic parts...such as The Reckoning and The Da Vinci Code.

Yup, that death scene was APPALLING - but I think it was only half, or one-quarter Paul's fault (and no, I ain't just saying that because I'm some drooling Paulfan!).

Basically, NEVER FILM A DEATH-SCENE FROM BETWEEN THE DYING ACTOR'S KNEES. Jesus Christ, Paul looked like he was about to give birth!

What a bloody angle to film at. I think composing the shot like that would have ruined just about ANY movie death - Paul was doing his best with a death-by-knifewound, and anatomically speaking that's a pretty slow, painful one, and does require much staggering and groaning, but the director could've made his job a lot easier by filming it properly and getting a better atmosphere with some soundtrack or something. Death scenes are all about the mood.

Overall, Paul himself could've done a lot worse. There was something faintly angelic about the last few shots of that scene.

reply

You may be right about that. I knew there was something wrong with the scene. I liked the character up to that point, but I couldn't stop laughing at that scene. Now that you mention it, it does seem like it was shot at a really weird angle.

i thought the way that it was filmed was brilliant...it helped convey that Paul's death wasn't glamourous or even "heroic"...he was in so much pain and was very scared - with that full on angle you couldn't escape the intensity...

reply

Paul Bettany excels. He is easily one of the best actors around today. And oh those piercing eyes!
Great performance........Dafoe looked good as well.

reply

Frankly, Bettany is simply extraordinary in this movie. He is so intense and charismatic, so into it; I would say that this movie evolves completely around him!
You know, they changed the ending to go further, when they were seeing how Bettany was portraying this character...

Simply incredible performance. From beginning to end.

VERY good point!
