Question about gameplay...

Alright, so I am in Act 3... in the Sewers, I believe. Obviously I have been playing the game for a while now, but I just ran into a problem. I had a bunch of charms that I was carrying around in my inventory, and I laid them down to create more room for stuff that I was picking up off the things I kill... I was collecting up all the money I could. I town portal-ed, thinking that my stuff would be there when I got. It had always been there when I came back before. So this time when I come back it is all gone. I had an axe that I was also carrying, it was still there, but the charms weren't. I just wanna know what happened to them, and if it is possible to get them back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
