anyone think jake regrets making this movie?

Anyone? Thoughts? Opinions?

I don't think so. It's stupid, but kinda funny and cute. It's not so bad that he should be ashamed of it. Besides, every actor has made a less-than-stellar movie at some point in their career. If this is the worst thing he's ever done, he should consider himself lucky.

From what i've heard from past interviews, Jake really enjoyed making the film and is incredibly proud of it. You can tell from the DVD commentary that he finds the film very funny becuase he keeps quoting from it etc and he's always said how he chooses every role very carefully, so he must have liked the script to begin with and probably just wanted to see what it was like to shoot a comedy.

Really?
I don't think it's a bad movie, it just doesn't seem like a movie a movie star like him would make.
Interesting.

It was made six years ago. He was 20. Hardly a star. In the March 2007 GQ he talks about how he loves this movie.

"You're too short for that gesture."

Keep in mind that he was not a movie star in 2001. Before this and Donnie Darko, he only played minor supporting roles. October Sky, Donnie Darko and Bubble Boy were his first major film roles.

It was just abit of light hearted fun plus with all the sh!t going around us its great to watch something care free and silly.

There's no reason at all for Jake to regret making Bubble Boy, if anyone's seen Jake in an interview you'll see he has a great sense of humour and apparently he loved making the film. I hope someday soon he'll do another silly comedy.

Why? Thatmovie was a masterpiece?

Well, most of the people who mock him and this movie have not even seen it, or if they have, they are homophobes. If Jake decided to take part in this movie he knew beforehand he would get this kind of crap from people. He has risen above it, sure, it might annoy him but it wouldn't make him regret this movie. He made friends on the set, and no one regrets meeting good friends.

Are you out of your teens yet? That has to be the dumbest, most immature, most entirely ignorant thing I ever read. Brokeback Mountain was a huge critical hit. It was nominated for multiple Oscars. It made JG an A-list star. And you think he regrets doing a movie that anyone would be proud to have define their career because allegedly a few immature fools think that others believe that an actor who would act in such a film must be gay?

I'm disgusted at the type of mind that could even think of something so prejudiced and stupid. How out of touch with reality are you? Brokeback Mountain MADE him. It brought him fame, respect, and a place in Hollywood history that will never go away. He's been in some good films, but Brokeback Mountain was the best.

But you think he regrets all that because some dumb teenage boys he has never met and who have no power over him or his career think that anyone who plays a gay role must be gay, and that there is something wrong with being gay.

The DevilsApprentice wrote: <<I didn't say that was my opinion. You need to go back to school and learn to read. I said I guess that would be the movie he regrets since most people think of him as his character being the way he really is.>>

Of course that is your opinion. In fact, you are convinced that is everyone's opinion. That's why you say such unbelievable things as <<everyone perceives him as being homosexual now and makes fun of him for it.>> It's just a fact for you -- you don't even question it. It's your opinion.

While it's true you never said, "This is my opinion," the stuff you wrote (look at what I quoted from you above) makes it clear that your opinion is that JG regrets or should regret Brokeback Mountain because it supposedly made everyone think he was gay and the film has caused people to make fun of him. That is what you think. That is your opinion. Thank god it is NOT the opinion of everyone, despite what you say. Where do you get such ideas?

What kind of mind could even think such a thing? With whom do you spend your time? No one, and I mean no one I know perceives JG as gay because he played a gay character. Do you think Robert Reed was straight because he played straight characters? No one I am friends with would make fun of anyone for being gay, either. Apparently, "everyone" you know does.

You CLEARLY agree with those crazy ideas; they clearly DO represent your opinion -- that why you asked if he regrets doing Brokeback Mountain. You accept these ideas as TRUTH and are absolutely sure that "everyone" (where do you get that from?) agrees with them. It has never occurred to you that there are many people who don't feel that way or think those thoughts.

TheDevilsApprentice wrote <<I disagree with you as well. Bubble Boy or Day After Tomorrow is what really make Jake a star. Before Day After Tomorrow, I had no idea who he was. I didn't remember him being in Bubble Boy so obviously he wasn't big named yet.>>

Wow -- someone here needs to go back to school here and I am not that someone. Your writing is dreadful. I am not going to argue with you about what movie did or didn't make JG a star. The fact that Brokeback Mountain was such a huge critical success, that it was nominated for and won many awards, speaks for itself. Anyway, you need to be less solipsistic. Just because YOU have experienced something doesn't mean that your experience is true for everyone. Your sentence <<I didn't remember him being in Bubble Boy so obviously he wasn't big named yet>> shows how you believe your experience is the only valid one.

reply

All right, TDA. You definitely won this argument. Time to calm down now...

"I am weasel! I am weasel! I. AM. WEASEL!"

reply

first off there's never been some big campaign about whether he's gay or not so it ends there. but for argument's sake, if he was insecure about being perceived as being gay he wouldn't have done it. not to mention even someone with the lowest self-esteem would not give a sh't what goes on in the head of people who are actually dumb enough to think he's gay by extension from playing a gay character.

about Bubbleboy he can probably thank this movie for every other time he's got work

reply

Not at all. He received the BAFTA for Brokeback and dedicated it to "everyone struggling with love." Either you're a Brokie or you're not.

Highway and Bubble Boy are my favorites of his other than Donny Darko. Road movies rock and he's a perfect actor to have in them. I hope he's in more comedies and more road movies :)

reply

I kind of wondered about that, but it honestly wasn't that bad. I thought the movie was really funny. And it probably helps that Donnie Darko followed right after Bubble Boy, showing that he could do other things and had staying power.

reply

He learned not to live in regret, ese.

If he does regret it, he shouldn't! This is a really great comedy. I love it, it's totally funny. Plus, it shows that he has range when he can do a silly comedy and then do something like Donnie Darko, or Jarhead.

reply

No why in the world should he regret doing this movie! He should be and probably is proud of it :) and that's a great thing about him! He don't seem to be afraid of doing less ordinary movies, playing less ordinary guys :)... it's a great movie and Jake does a great job!

reply

Haha, regrets it? no! He's brought this film up in both of his Jimmy Kimmel interviews...

...in the funny story about the weird woman with the towel: 'I want you to have this - I'm a massive fan of Bubble Boy!' ... and when he's talking about promoting prince of persia in Russia: Jimmy - 'are you well known in Russia from movies?' Jake - 'yeah, you know I'm actually pretty big in Russia, yeah ... Bubble Boy (laughs) what can I say, they know quality' XD
