Louis CK

I'm a fan of Louis CK, and although I don't expect this film to be like his stand up in content, I'm just curious if his wit comes through here or if its just slaughtered by editing/acting and/or a miss on his part? It doesn't look too promising but you really never know, so I'd like some opinions if you'd be so kind.

Just watch the movie. It is brilliant.

The movie is stupid, I won't lie. And yet... it's one of my favorites. It's just... ridiculously awesome in it's own special way.

The movie IS really stupid but if you're just looking for cheap laughs I guess it's okay. It kind of reminds me of a not so good version of Undercover Brother.

I don't think Louis CK is funny. I've tried but I don't like him. Don't like his standup. Didn't like his HBO show.

But I love this movie. It's very funky and funny and stupid and weird.

And I love Chris Rock, and David Cross, and Wanda Sykes, and Jennifer Coolidge. I love Todd Barry. Good lord, I love Jim Earl, he was so great on Morning Sedition with Marc Maron. God help me I even love Robert Vaughn.

Tell you what, I'll give Louis CK's standup another try and you give this movie a shot. Maybe we'll both be sorry but what the heck, it's just an hour or two we were probably gonna waste anyway. ;)

LOL you think chris rock is funny but not louis ck?

Saying "cracker" 150 times doesn't make you funny. All chris rock has is the race card.

reply

I think Chris Rock is a lot funnier than Louis C.K. I've tried getting into Louis' comedy, because everyone talks about how much they enjoy it. That's what makes comedy great though, something for everyone.

And I think Chris Rock's comedy is more than saying "cracker" more than 150 times.

Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes.

lol

the thing is, louis ck used to write for chris rock before he(louis) became famous, and now chris rock is more of a behind the scene guy and probably writes for louis ck some times. in theory people who liked chris rock should like louis ck and vice versa because they used the same observational humors, unless aging middle class white man's problems or rags to riches black guy observing the stupid stuff poor people do just isn't your cup of tea.

This movie is an absurdist masterpiece. I bet you haven't even seen it and are just going off of mainstream reviews. CK wrote most of the custom tracks as well.

I remember Louie posted on his old message board (back when his website had a message board) that the original cut of the film was a lot funnier and that Paramount basically locked him out of the editing room and wouldn't let him have any say in what made it into the film and that they cut out a lot of his favorite stuff.

You're correct. Actually, Paramount hated this movie, and actually hired an ex-friend of Louis (the ex beccause of this movie, actually) and he recut it into *beep* and they severed ties. Louis' cut was never fully released.

Here is a trailer that Louis CK edited personally. It has some footage not seen in the movie as well as being a more accurate depiction of how he wanted the movie to be.

If you want to see a movie that REALLY comes off like Louis CK wrote it, check out "Hamlet 2". Either the writer of that movie was copying his style or he really did write most of it.

If you call me crazy again, I'll eat your other eye.

I LOVE this movie, have seen it several times, and didn't realize LCK wrote the damn thing. I guess Chris Rock is now riding Adam Sandler's gravy train. And as far as a previous poster said, "Run Ronnie Run" is quite possibly the funniest movie ever made.

This is one of those movies that is so (intentionally) stupid that I love it. I love me some Pootie Tang!
