Worse Movie Ever?

Being a (or used to be) a big Chris Rock Fan, I went to see this in the theater expecting at least a chuckle here and there. This movie was so awful, that I sat and watched it for a full 30 minutes just waiting for it to get better. I sat there as one by one the entire audience left the theater until it was just me and my daughter there, alone. We finally gave up on it and I have loathed Chris Rock ever since. He could never trick me again. I ignored his "I think I love my wife" and his "Black hair". This movie is pure torture and should cost 1 cent with a $10.00 rebate!!! Yeah! I said it!

a theater in columbus ohio is playing this next saturday night as part of its new cult classics series. someone must like it.

Some people are stupid. This is the biggest steaming pile of monkey crap i've ever seen. And I've got a copy of Manos: The Hands Of Fate.

reply

oh come on. that's not even the worst movie ever, only MST3K fans think that. And Pootie Tang was way better.

Worst use of "worse"?

Anyone who thinks this movie is terrible is a great buffoon, and its entire premise soared so far over your head it's ridiculous.

"Worse" movie ever?

I've seen over 600 films, & to me this is the worst movie i've ever seen by far. So I would have to agree.

I love this movie beyond measure. It is just childish humor presented in a straight-forward way. It is just not the usual kind of comedy we are used to but it is like poetry which must be appreciated to understand its meaning. Funny as hell.

I've seen well over 2000 films in my life and Pootie-Tang is definitely not the worse. Sorcerers & Howard the Duck are 2 of my Top 10 worse films ever.

True, this is not a great movie at all. There are some stupid funny parts here and there, but the script is just bad. Considering how many times this film was edited, I can understand why. I gave the film a 4 out of 10. Chris Rocks, "Black Hair" & "I Think I Love My Wife" are much better films over all. I can't believe people actually paid to see this film. I just watched it on cable. I think it comes on BET every few months.

Clearly you are not aware what "intended audience" means. Like in the case of Howard the Duck, it is the 8-12 years range. How can it be a bad movie, when it's target audience thinks it's perfect?

"Anyone who claims to be a feminist instead of a humanist is a tap dancing monkey."

reply

Erm, Howard the Duck has some pretty adult themes in there. One of the reasons a lot of people think it's bad is how it doesn't seem to know who its target audience is. I haven't seen it myself, but ugh, it looks terrible.

like 12 year olds don't get adult jokes... are you kidding me?

Well 600 films is not that much. I'm 38 and watch at least two films I never saw before every week, since I'm five. So, I'm already way above your 600 films (at your calculator!). And Pootie Tang is clearly not the worst.

reply

This is one of my guilty pleasure movies. I ended up buying it I love it so much. It's not meant to be great cinema, it's just silly fun not to be taken seriously. I love it. The bit with the silent song was priceless, especially when the father busts in the kid's room and yells, "Turn that damn music down!"

Signatures annoy me.

it is a a strange but funny movie, i like it.

If you're too good for non pretentious, and silly humor. It's probably not for you, but if you just want to laugh at a funny movie that's insanely quotable, then this is a great movie.

reply

its "good hair" not black hair

reply

It's not just humor.

There are a number of VERY clever statements / observations on modern culture & human nature in this flick.

Seriously.

- but I don't think most people picked up on many of them, writing it off as only a goofy comedy.

reply

Agreed. And it's one of the best comedies and satires ever. A bit absurd, over the top and annoying, especially for the stuck-up, just as our modern world is. And that's exactly what makes it special. Hats off!

But some people don't have humor. At all.
Sine yo putty on the runny cline!

reply

I'm also in agreement. There's a lot of biting satire which can be overlooked on the first viewing simply because the movie is intentionally nonsensical.

Take the absurdity of Pootie Tang's hit "song." Not only is there the obvious jab at how popular musical artists are saying nothing with their music, but there's an implicit critique as to how radio stations perpetuate this cycle by promoting this junk.

reply

And there's more! I just remembered that bit from the Chris Rock Show when Pootie Tang runs for senator (see it on YouTube). Chris Rock is awesome!

reply

'You can't beat a hoe with a belt... they like that *beep*

Haha. It's ok not to like this film, but to suggest that it has nothing good to it, or that it is the worst film ever, or that people who like are unintelligent, is just juvenile dogma.

Be intelligent enough to know what is 'good' and what is not does not exist based solely on the yardsticks of your perspective.

I had never heard of this movie. I was flipping channels and caught this from the start. I found my self laughing. I didn't know what to expect so I kept watching thinking the laughs would quit but I kept laughing. I'll admit, there isn't much of a story or plot but it had alot of funny bits. Not brilliant but funny. It never changed it's tempo, it started silly and stayed silly.

I imagine some people will call me names, say I am an idiot and, oh yeah, some will question my sexuality, but I thought it was funny.

this is one of the best, worst movies ever made, it's bad, cuz it is, but the humor is almost............ sublime, anyway, that's my opinion
