What true event is this based on?

I just rented this movie and thought it was intriguing. I keep on reading that it is based on true events. Does anyone know what events these are?

It was a very good film.

I don't know if you are still looking for info more than five and half years later, but if you are, here it is (as written in the booklet that came with the DVD):

"Morlang is loosely based on a true story, known as the 'van Bemmelin Affair', in which a man fooled his wife into committing suicide. When you consider the origin of its creation, the film rises to a chilling new level of psychological drama.

Director Tjebbo Penning saw a television interview in his native country of Holland. During the interview, an elderly couple announced that they were going to commit suicide. After decades of marriage, they would make an ultimate act of love and trust together. The man, van Bemmelen, would hold his wife's hand when she took her own life. According to their plan, she would go first, and he would follow after kissing her goodbye.

A few months later, Penning saw the man on television again. Not only had he obviously not committed suicide, van Bemmelen announced that he had never intended to. The public outcry was fierce. What if his wife had known? He was arrested promptly, and the name 'van Bemmelen' became synonymous with betrayal throughout Europe.

Van Bemmelen was found innocent of any crime by the courts. However, the episode caused a great deal of soul-searching among couples everywhere. How well can you really know someone? How much can you trust someone you love? Morlang speaks eloquently to these themes."
