way too long and repetitive


I love how he did this film but after the upteenth argument about what the Commune should do or why the upper classes are bad, I got really annoyed. I saw the 6 hour version and now wish I had seen the 3 and a half hour version. I'd say even that could be trimmed. Why not save the actors own opinions for the making of material and have the camera be the observer as in Culloden & not be so anachronistic with the TV crews? Watkins certainly has stuck to his themes and style over the years, I'll give him credit for that. I wish someone with a budget could make a film about the Commune, say Ken Loach as he did for the Spanish Civil War. But of course if they showed the violence, Watkins would claim sensationalism and dismiss it.
