Dude, I sympothized with Gambol

I couldn't help but know what he was going though and in the end it was that idiot with the camra at the bank, and that beaurocratic bastard behind a desk that made all the problems happen.

reply

Hey Dude - I'm completely with you! He was given a hard time, all he tried to do was save that hostage's life, he made a split second mistake where he accidentally shot the woman, but she lived.
That's why he turned against all of them.

anyone else feel that? (plus he was so hot, too)

reply

he didnt accidentally shoot the woman he shot her in the shoulder so the bad guy would drop her and he would have a clear shot

reply

yeah, i sympathized with him. He was a good guy just everyone was against him.

~~*AIM*~~
The world will look up and shout "Save us!"... And I'll whisper "No."

IMHO, the whole bank robbery scene at the beginning of the movie was a repudiation of the action movies of the 1980s. "Do whatever it takes to kill the bad guys" doesn't fly anymore, this is the 21st century, not the wild west.
Or at least that's how I interpreted it.

After 20 years of practice, I still can't spit like Josey Wales.

No!No!No!,He was a total knobhead! His 'gun-ho,trying to punch his chiefs lights out' attitude was a disgrace. As his superior kindly put him in the cage was just spat back nastily in his face.I sympathized with his partner who showed restraint and was rewarded with another stint in SWAT 6 months later. If he had sided and acted like his partner then he wouldn't stood a chance.Don't forget! It was his partner at the very beginning who ignored his bosses orders not to go in the bank..the camera man was just doing his job.I'm glad he got sliced up at the end.

reply

Wait a *bleep*ing second, this is CRUCIAL - you mean he shot the hostage on purpose?? How did I miss that - are you SURE??

But if he HADN't, they would have killed her, right? He said "kill that bitch and throw her out on the street".

reply

yeh but he was the one that went in in the first place. heres a play by play of what went down courtosy of me watching the film again.

1. they arrive and make their way into the building Street and Gamble make it into the office

2. Sniper takes out one of them which causes them to pick the girl as a hostage.

3. they are told to hold their position but Gambol goes in anyway. A second robber is taken out which makes the 2 inside panic. no threats yet. SWAT are trying to negotiate. G&S go into the lobby where the 2 robbers are.

4. Robbers see the news footage and know SWAT are watching. Robber tells other robber to kill the girl. Robber with hostages stops to gloat about being on tv.

5. Then without warning Gambol shoots the hostage there was no way he was trying to aim for the Robber.

a point could be made that he was trying to save their lives but now as they said the lady could sue which makes swat look bad

reply

I've got to watch this scene again - I thought he couldn't get a clear shot at the robber, and shot lady in the shoulder instead. Remember, he was upset, asking "is she okay?" to which Street replied, "I'm not a doctor."

reply

thats not the point of it they were not ment to be in there anyway. Also he was a few feet away so there was never going to be a "clear" shot

reply

-His 'gun-ho, trying to punch his cheifs lights out' attitude was a disgrace-

Some ppl. are just push to that exact reaction after being beauracaticly ass-raped for so damn long in a job where 'doin' the right thing [apperantly] ain't doin the right thing.'

Street apperantly had more controll to take just stupid PC and, while is to be very commended on it, was shorta little more like Hondo who tried with the most of their strength to not be totally brainwashed by it like those patrolman who just go by the book and think their bosses have the knowledge of God to know more than they do.

reply

Agreed, Gamble's action probably saved the hostage's life but he had to disobey an order and use unconventional tactics. The main reason he was fired was because the hostage could sue SWAT afterwards. I can fully understand Gamble including his outburst in front of the chief. Street and Gamble have to make very hard descisions in milliseconds and other people's lifes depend on it. I am sure they did well in dozens of other situations like this and this time they still managed to save the hostage and yet he is thrown out of SWAT. Sure, disobeying an order and going in although he should have waited is something hard to argue with, then again, sometimes guys like Street and Gamble are better at interpreting the situation than the chiefs and other pencil pushers and paper gangsters.

I see it like this:
If you are the captain of a SWAT team, you should know your guys and how they work, you don't roll dice to determine the members, do you. Gamble must have been known for his attitude and his tendency to override orders if he thinks the situation needs a different approach NOW. If I was the captain of such a team and had someone like Gamble in it, I would be happy that there is someone who can think for himself. But if a captain is too much afraif of loosing his job because his men might cause trouble trying to do the right thing, then this captain should not select people like Gamble for his team. He should search for more people like Street that just play safe and go by book and orders, no matter what.

reply

If Gamble didn't take that shot that hostage lady would've die.

reply

i felt sorry for him until he shot that chopper down and killed two cops, nuff said

reply

Not to mention Shooting Boxer in the back of the neck while he was surrendering to TJ.

*sarcasm* Oh yeah a very sympathetic character

reply

In the beginning, he was definetely a sympathetic character but later, not so much.

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit' me!" Hudson in Aliens.

reply

Sympathetic or not a guy like that doesn't have a place in an unit like this. There is a chain of command and he disobeyed it. Maybe this was the first time he shot a hostage, but definitely not his first screw up. Sooner or later he was going to get somebody killed. He had the chance to stay on the force and he didn't take it. If he didn't want to follow orders he should have become a vigilante in order to fight crime, not SWAT.

June 29th. I gotta get i shape now...

If you want to be a vigilante, join SWAT.

reply

I agree they were harsh on him. But going postal on everyone and turning bad is no excuse.

reply

I just got screwed out of my job so ys I sympothize with Gambol as well and know what he went trhoguh. Im thought it was cool that he went after SWAT at end of the movie.

reply

Don't go down the route he did though.
