One of my most hated movies of all time.

Reese is a biznitch to both these guys the entire movie, she's a liar and a cheater with zero likable qualities. And both Dempsey and Lucas are great dudes. Both should have left her. And then we are supposed to root for one over the other and cheer her on when she gets her happy ending and breaks the heart of a dude who was willing to forgive all the crap she did to him because he loved her?

Oh and to top off the woman's fantasy of the rich dreamboat and the bad boy with a heart of gold fighting for her, the poor dude ends up being rich too, so she gets it all.

A terrible movie with a terrible lead character and a terrible message.

I don't feel like that at all. In fact, I came on this board to say just that: for what it is (i.e. typical romcom and therefore by definition lighthearted and inevitably kinda superficial) this is a great movie. I like Felony Melanie because she has a strong personality, she knew when to make a radical even if painful decision that would change her life and then she knew when it was time to make another one. I agree that the unfair point in the movie is that the antagonist dude is actually a really nice guy, but I think that makes the movie stand out from the boring lot of mass-produced rom-coms, since the decision is neither obvious nor easy. The plot of childhood sweethearts getting back together always gets me and there is a specific scene in the movie (when she visits the dog's grave) that I admit has made me tear up more than once, and I don't remember ever crying in a romcom*.

*except Marley&Me - does that count as a rom-com? -damn you Marley&Me, I hate this movie for making me cry in public (watched it on a plane).

The original poster made me laugh. I think you missed the point of the movie. Sure, Andrew was rich and could've given Melanie a great life, but she did that without him. After some soul searching she realized that she always loved Jake, and being rich and all that comes with it was just not important enough to her to forget her past and where she came from. She did Andrew a favor by staying with Jake.

If Rodger and Ebert were women then I'd vote for you two . Jesus Christ it's a movie. And you are supposed to watch the movie or TV show. If you didn't like it then that's perfectly ok. You're entitled to your opinion. And now I'll never get back the minutes I spent reading your post!
