Completely random but the guy in the bar

the one that tries picking up women and finally picked up Helen(is it?) and took her back to his place.

they never got straight to the action cos he was too busy sprucing the house up. sorry but how unorginised can you get? just saying, if you're plan is to pick up a woman a take her back to your place you always make sure you're place is ready for it on the off chance that, even for a fug like him, someone might be desperate enough to say yes. lol no wonder he got nothing in the end, less chat more action fella!

let that be a lesson to anyone else wanting to live the bachelor lifestyle.
you cant be a bachelor without a bachelor pad.

as he mentioned, he never expected he'd actually get to bring a woman home with him. because he didn't believe in himself, he didn't prepare for success

but thats what i'm saying - he still tried. even if you've never had any success it doesn't mean it can never happen. thats why he never gave up and it worked, one day someone said yes. but he still didn't get laid because he hadn't truly prepared. he should have remembered that his place was a sh*thole and took her to a hotel instead.

that certainly would have been a better course of action for him, though from a humanist storytelling perspective, it's a pretty good depiction of how expectation of failure can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, driven by multiple levels of self-sabotage that manifest when opportunities for success exist

it's like the way people who have a poverty mentality continue to make choices that keep them in poverty, even when it's easy for objective outsiders to see the obvious better choices
