What was it he forgot when he his wife says sometimes we forget and he shows her his hand saying it will remind him never to forget, also what was he looking for when she approached him.

shareI know your question was posted a few years ago, but I figured I'd take a stab at it myself. I think Jim was referring to the fact that he lost sight of what was truly important in life. He worked tirelessly for years in the law firm, and it amounted to nothing in his career, and nearly cost him everything with his family. The bullet wound in his hand was his way of saying that moment was a reality check, and it reminded him of everything he could of lost (his children, his wife and their love, his own life. And so on.)
He wasn't looking for anything, I don't believe. I think he was just trying to fix his earlier mistake (pulling out flowers instead of the weeds.) He was trying to replace the flowers, and I think the way he was going about it was just another sign of how slightly unhinged he's become since being passed over for promotion. You could clearly see he had a minor psychotic break over it.
