Why hasn't this been transferred to video?

This was one great television special, with Minnelli at her top of her game and of course Fosse's amazing choreogrpahy. Sponsored by Singer for NBC-TV. 1972.

I once had a 16mm copy of it in a closet (!) and stoooopid me let it disintegrate for 20 years in there. Finally dumped it, thinking for SURE someone would eventually make it available to the public.

It was shot LIVE at the Shubert Theater in NY...a one night deal, with an invited audience of celebs. Shot, as I said, LIVE [with TWELVE CAMERAS no less!]

Amazing.

Anyone know if this will ever be on VHS or DVD? And if not, why?

The show has been digitally restored--it was recently shown to ecstatic audiences at the Toronto Film Festival. Early next year, it will be aired on Showtime; thereafter, it will be made available on DVD. Pretty cool, huh?

I understand that the DVD will be released sometime in 2006; an exact date has not been set.

The official release date is 4 April 2006. Deepdiscountdvd has it for $19.93 (pre-order) and free shipping.
