minor cut in ring them bells.

In the dialougue section the line "Thats where you live" is missing. This coincides with a change of camera so possibly it has always been missing. The line is present on the soundtrack cd.

I noticed that too.

I did too, I'm so used to the record that I was mouthing the words with the special and all of a sudden it got ahead of me! There are some vocal differences when she's in the middle of "Say Liza" on the show, she stumbles a little over "Mary who's really Marie". Nobody has ever discussed whether LM had to go into the recording studio to redo certain lines. Little touches like that must have been tedious and detailed work.

Well not to sully Liza's rep, but I think some if not most of that show was lip-synced.

I saw this live on tour a year after the TV special aired. I thought something was suspect because no matter how hard she danced, she never lost her breath while singing, but then she'd be incredibly winded when talking to the audience (she had to grab a mic to speak to us!).

Also, her singers were always in complete harmony with her - and equally as loud while singing - yet they didn't seem to be mic'ed.

Frankly, I don't know how one could do this show and NOT lip-sync, the choreography is so physically demanding at times.

Now that I'm in film school and am aware of all the techniques used to record and edit, it doesn't seem possible to record Liza's actual singing on stage and then cut a film that preserves all the music of the performance intact.

To record not just her voice but also the voices of the singers as well as the correct volumes of each instrument necessitates recording in a studio - it simply isn't do-able in a theater (even Broadway shows go to a studio to record the cast album).

Slight cuts in the singing occur, but I think those are more in the name of time rather than any editing glitches.

Even with pre-recorded sound, however, the show is still a killer to watch. I mean - Liza's voice sounds great no matter what.

And her dancing...truly hypnotic!

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

I fully agree with you. If you listen to the album version of "ring them bells", you can hear a definite change in acoustic between the dialogue section, and the singing.
