Region 1 vs Region 2 Versions

I have the UK version, Region 2 (and watched it), and I purchased the US/Canadian version, Region 1, when it came out a few weeks ago. Then I lent it to a friend before watching it (She hasn't watched it yet).

Can anyone tell me if the Region 1 version, Almost Strangers, is exactly the same as the Region 2 version, Perfect Strangers? Are any scenes altered or cut?

reply

I cannot say with great authority but I am 99% certain that both region 1 and region 2 discs will be the same: complete and unedited. BBC are obviously showing great care with his films when released on DVD.
I have copies but I almost want to buy the discs of this and Shooting The Past because I like the covers so much. Elegant, stylish, modern.

I have Shooting the Past, too, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

The main difference is R1 is full screen and R2 is wide screen.

I live in US but ordered the UK version for this reason, as I have a widescreen T and don't want any of my image missing, thank you very much Auntie Beeb. Alas, almost all BBC releases on DVD in US are FS! I have no idea why, as you can hardly buy a 4:3 T in North America.

Other than the aspect ratio, the two versions appear to be the same.

Kudos to BBCAmerica Home Video! There are apparently no differences between R1 & R2, other than the R1 discs being NTSC system (well, & the title, too), as the film is presented in 16x9 anamorphic wide-screen.

I watched this on UK TV when it came out, and then, when it turned up on US TV, I watched it again.

To me, they seemed to be the same wonderful story--of course, years separated the two viewings and I may have missed something!
