I found this online and thought some scenes in the beginning were familiar to me so I thought I must have started to watch it and gave up because it was bland. I went ahead anyway and realized I had only seen the trailer before so I decided to watch it over the course of a couple of days. I was so mesmerized by all the family drama (and fun) that I watched it almost all in one sitting but definitely in one evening and loved every minute.

All the actors are favorites of mine especially the inimitable Michael Gambon and the lovely Lindsey Duncan whom I was introduced to in HBO's Rome. She really can play almost any part.

I can't say enough good things about the young Matthew Macfayden who did a wonderful job keeping things together in the family as the various stories are told with him as a go between between various family members.

As I age, as well as many other people my age, we seem to develop an interest in our families backgrounds, unfortunately for some too late because much has been lost with the deaths of the elder members. I have a very large family and we are trying to piece together our ancestry and pictures but many are gone and our parents knew very little about their families past. I wish we had all this family had in the way of photos and homes but we were poor. For this reason alone the film fascinated me and I wondered what was in my family's history that we will never know now. The young don't seem to have that same interest as older people do.

What a marvelous film and so well written and directed with a wonderful cast that I will have to see it again. I recommend it highly.
