I know right, what crap! Why isn't there an american dub? I can't stand movies where they don't speak American. I hate subtitles because I can't concentrate on my bacon cheeseburger and read at the same time. Yeah, I feel you bro; Movies that are not spoken in the american language suck; All foreign films are GARBAGE. Except for European Vacation with Chevy Chase, and of course Euro Trip; these are great foreign movies. I also love pork rinds and pig feet.

not to be nitpicking here, but aren't subtitles also translations?
there will always be something lost in translation, whether it's dubbed or subtitled. but i agree that hearing the original sounds does indeed make the movie a better experience.
Subtitles are translations.
But you'll lose a part of the acting. Next to that subtitles are direct translations where dubs are quite often make a line that similar which also (somewhat) matches the actors mouth movement (it's never perfect, it looks stupid).
Thank you Criterion!!!! They have been loyal to the foreign film market by releasing ONLY the original language soundtrack. You lazy, whiny people shouldn't even be watching Criterion movies if you ONLY want English. Dubbing sucks and it should be against the code of filmmaking. Just like colorization of black and white films.
Seems Criterion (back in Laserdisc years) were the first ones who would NOT dub their foreign films. That is why I have regard for them.

The English dubbed version of Das Boot was appalling...

I am English and have to watch most modern American films with subtitles switched on (if available). Unnecessary with classic American films like "All about Eve" which used trained actors, but so many modern US actors arrived from sports, the military, modelling, reality TV, and anywhere but theater school, so they are unable to articulate or pronounce words with more than two syllables.
I have no complaints about their accent or acting ability otherwise, just their inarticulacy. Probably one reason that so many British actors are being hired to play stereo-typically American roles these days. They are probably cheaper and have a better work-ethic too.
Can´t you read subtitles illiterate hillbilly. English is not the only language in the world, you might learn spanish as well.
sharei prefer subtitles. After 5 minutes it is not a big deal, unless you cant read i guess!
