To All Girls Who Have Ever Played Peter

I know this is going to sound reall bratty, but oh well.

I have very long hair and I love it very much. I might get a chance to Play Peter, but I am worried that they will make me cut my hair. Were any of you able to keep long hair and still play Peter? Thanks.

It is stupid to have a girl play Peter Pan, but they always do. It doesn't have to be a girl, it can be a boy too. I've seen it.

That didn't answer my question at all.

unless it is like a professional production, i doubt that they would make you cut your hair. most likely you can wear a wig, try out anyway:) and no Peter doesn't HAVE to be played by a girl, but it usually is, the songs are higher and the harness to fly is uncomfortable for boys.

I know that this is old and you no longer need the information, but this is for anyone that comes upon this wanting answers.

Usually if they cast a girl with long hair to play Peter, then they'll pin your hair up, put it under a wig cap, and give you a wig to wear and pin down. Very rarely will they ask you to chop off all of your hair.

And, it's not stupid to have a girl play Peter. This was a tradition long before Peter Pan. On stage, women were used to play young boys because young boys have higher voices and smaller frames. A grown man would not be able to pull of a little boy, and a prepubescent boy is usually having vocal problems at that age.

If you were to use a little boy, then you'd have a little boy surrounded by an adult cast and it offsets the entire production.

It's not stupid, it's logical. And I've seen productions that use both, and while males can play the character of Peter beautifully, you can tell he's a man by his size, his voice, and his bone structure. It doesn't translate well to the audience and it makes the entire production awkward.

I am sick and tired of girls playing Peter. It's a boy role. Males can play him too. Lower the notes a few octaves for crying out loud. It's not fair to boys who wanna play the boy who will never grow up.
