My Odd Anthology List

Well, as I've done for the past few years, I'm re-posting my list of the B&W era (roughly 1945-1965) anthologies that were quirky, creepy, suspenseful, or had Sci-Fi/fantasy/supernatural themes. My list appears on every one of the boards for the shows listed below, however, the list gets hidden rather quickly on boards which have lots of traffic. Most of the regulars have seen this before, but some newer members might find it interesting. If you are on this board, you might just be curious about some of these other series. Anyway, enjoy.

The Alfred Hitchcock Hour----------Sep. 1, 1962.............3...................93.............Alfred Hitchcock (CBS/NBC)
The Outer Limits-------------------Sep. 1, 1963.............2...................49.............Vic Perrin (ABC)

All were 30 min except Thriller, Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Outer Limits, Suspicion & season 4 of The Twilight Zone. Also all were B&W Except season 1 of Science fiction Theatre and possibly Great Ghost Tales (not sure). Some Host information may be incomplete.

Hands of Murder had title changes to Hands of Mystery & Hands of Destiny.

According to some sites Panic & No Warning are really the same show (Titled Panic the first season & No Warning the second).

At least some episodes from all of these exist with the possible exception of Hands of Murder, Out There & Great Ghost Tales. (It seems episodes of Great Ghost Tales does exist, though not available at present)

Note: Many of the older "Live" series (especially before 1955) have a quaint look to them and may not appeal to all tastes.

Also note: I will try to keep this list updated as more facts become available. I try to use multiple sources to keep the info on this list accurate. It is, however, possible for minor errors to slip though.

TheGalaxybeing,

I'd like to suggest that you add color series to your list. Making sure not to forget, "GHOST STORY" hosted by Sebastian Cabot, and "The Dark Room" hosted by James Coburn. Thanks, CKB.

Now I can start checking items from this list and begin my Galaxy Being collection (hehehe) :)

This is a fine list and will be cut 'n pasted into my wants list fer sure.
Those with Usenet access should note that Karloff's "Veil" just went up in
alt.binaries.vintage.tv and "Tales of Tommorrow" went up a few years back
but don't remember which newsgroup it was. It was the posting of Veil that
lead me here.

Thanks Galaxy Being !

Galaxy Being:

Have you heard of the great BBC series?

Out of the Unknown late 60s early 70s -(although many eps were destroyed during a great and infamous BBC purge, but most of the first season and parts of the second and third exist.) This is the most outstanding of the lot! Around 21 exist.

Journey to the Unknown - (many wiped by the BBC) Only 17 episodes have been found

Doomwatch - a very popular series dealt with a scientific government agency led by Doctor Spencer Quist (played by John Paul), responsible for investigating and combating various ecological and technological dangers.

and two American series called Strange World...and HAMMER HOUSE OF MYSTERY & SUSPENSE

Definitely heard of "Journey to the Unknown"

Although my list is for series form before the B&W period, I certainly enjoy later anthologies. I remember "Journey to the Unknown"'s distinctive opening. I do enjoy many of the early BBC shows, and will want to check out "Out of the Unknown". "Doomwatch" sounds like something I might like too.

Thanks for the input.

Great that you know Journey...Out of the Unknown is definitely available at ioffer...and worth every second that is available!

Journey to the Unknown wasn't a BBC series - it was made by Hammer and was shown on ITV in the UK. It was shot on film and all episodes exist.

I think you are confusing it with Out of the Unknown (easily done), an earlier BBC series which was shot on tape - some of which were wiped.

John-637, thank you for that correction! I should have known better!
