Anna Bella's race?

Does anyone know her race? I mean is she mixed? If so, which part of her is black and which part is white?

reply

I know that her father is Black. He is actor Richard Lawson. But I don't know about her mother.

reply

If you are talking about the actress Bianca Lawson who played Anna Bella both her parents Richard Lawson and Deniece Lawson are black. If you are talking about the character Anna Bella who she played in the movie she was black and white.True her father was a slave but his father was white so when her father died he couldn't keep her because he had a family so he gave her to madam Elsie.

reply

Thanks. And I meant the character Anna Bella.

Anna Bella has more black blood than Marcel does. It seems that her father's father was a white man so she's 3/4 black. (Although I'm not sure we find out her mother's exact make up so I suppose it's possible that she may have another white grandparent. Her mother was definitely "colored" though.) Marcel on the other hand only has one black grandparent, his mother's mother. He's 3/4 white, 1/4 black.

I think the left part is black... oh wait... that was Star Trek... Never Mind

reply

Anna Bella is just like Marcel, Marie and the rest of the gens de couleur libre. She just had the misfortune of being born with a 'black' nose. At least it was like that in the book. Also her father was free and he ran his own business. He was killed because a white man owed him money and he didn't want to pay. So there you are.

In real life she IS mixed. As are possibly 90% of all Americans , African or otherwise.

reply

Where did you get those statistics? I'm very interested in knowing your source. I'd like to read more about that. Thanks.

But she was white in the novel right? I mean I know in the film she was mixed, but in another post on this board, some posters were saying that her original race was white.

Richard Lermontant's description of Anna Bella Monroe:

For though she had skin the color of wax candles, a perpetual bloom in her cheeks that was a rose, and large liquid brown eyes heavily fringed with a sweep of soft lashes, she had an African nose, broad and somewhat flat, and a full African mouth. In addition there was about her stance, her long neck and the easy sway of her hips, something that reminded him all too much of the black vendeuses who carried their wares to market in baskets atop their heads. - Feast of All Saints, Anne Rice, 1979

Anna Bella was in direct contrast to Marcel's mother, who had dark walnut colored skin and Caucasian features.
