GOD AWFUL

I am from New Orleans and I am Creole. This movie was A JOKE! The accents and the acting was SO HORRIBLE. Everyone I have spoken to from home agrees. No one and I mean NO ONE has been able to capture my beloved my people.

Well this movie did take place over 100 years ago. Who knows how they really spoke? The acting was pretty cheesie but I was still moved by this movie and book.

I saw the mini before I read the book( I was more into the vanpire stuff before I read this one. I only watched the movie because it was based on an Anne Rice novel ) so maybe thats why I didn't find the show so bad. Poor Anne. Show business really has a way of shredding her work to bits.

They really should have used creole or french and french-speaking actors with subtitles. I understand their use of popular and recognizable actors for ratings but none of them really captured the language or accents (except for maybe Forest Whitaker and Eartha Kitt).

I'm not even from New Orleans and I totally agree.

You did not live in that era; and I am sure your people did not either!
Why can't you just appreciate the effort and the talent of the people who
portrayed these roles. They did not live in that era, but I am sure they
did the best they could with what they had.

Just be glad that another part of our "colorful" history has been revealed
to an unknowing world and an otherwise in denial society!!

"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"

Yes, but accents should either be accurate or not used--I went to acting school and that's how it is...it was horrible and to make matters worse, Marcel had a ghetto twang to go with his flaring nostrils, blonde hair and horrid over-acting.

reply

What in the world is a ghetto twang?

Anyway you may have not liked his portrayal but there was nothing ghetto about Ri'chard in this film. I'm not seeing it.

Rest in Peace Johnny Otis, Etta James, a Rhythm & Blues legend & a true artist you will be missed.

Although I know nothing of Creole people , I agree that this movie seemed to have no "spirit"

I think Eve's Bayou did a better job, and that was about a little girl!

Watched the whole "danged" thing last night. Kept waiting for it to get better. Never happened. What a waste of JEJ. I mean really!!!

As to AR and her books. I find an awful lot of cruelty and "sexual sickness" in her writing. Quit reading her for that reason. Really hated the rape scene and the after dialog. Turned it off. That was that!! Never again.

I too am from New Orleans and Creole and thought this series was awful. I was extremely disappointed as to this is the only thing I can find (as far as movies/tv series' goes) that speaks of my Creole history. I just started reading a book called 'Creole' by Sybil Klein. So far it's 100 times better than this miniseries.

reply

They weren't trying to capture the accent or dialect of your beloved creole people in this century. They were trying to portray the dialects of Creole, Haitians, and french speaking people hundreds of years ago. Dialects do change over time you know?? But I have to agree with you, some of the accents spoken by the actors in the movie seemed to drift in and out and change a bit. They did the best they could I guess. I mean how could they have possibly found good actors that looked the part, were recognizable, and also did great accents. Chances are slim.

How did you feel about the book?
