Wow, let's beat this argument to death already! I believe the points being argued are:
was it cruel to chop up fish in anger, drag a dog by it's leash, or factory slaughter cows, pigs, chickens, etc for 'meat'..?? I believe there is a cultural reference here to take into account (Dogs and other 'pets' are eaten in Indonesia, for example). Also, I have read Kim Ki-Duk's opinion on this. I'd have to agree with why Kim Ki-Duk chose to show what he did in his movie(s). He is making a statement regarding humanity and the cruelty we commit everyday to ourselves and others - other people, and other species.
It all comes back to respect and regard for life OR not.
I'm not a vegetarian. But, I don't eat red meat or dairy. It makes me ill.
I attempt to eat locally or at least know where my food comes from.
You are what you eat, and if you enjoy the hormones and the fear, then go ahead, take another bite,
carnivore human. yum-yum
"..the way I see it, the food that we eat today is no different. In America you eat beef, pork, and kill all these animals. And the people who eat these animals are not concerned with their slaughter. Animals are part of this cycle of consumption. It looks more cruel onscreen, but I don't see the difference. And yes, there's a cultural difference, and maybe Americans will have a problem with it - but if they can just be more sensitive to what is acceptable in different countries I'd hope they wouldn't have too many issues with what's shown on -screen."
