Whay do people hate this movie?

I'm a huge Roberto Benigni/Nicoletta Braschi fan, and granted this is no Life Is Beautiful, but i still really enjoyed it! Its a real life version of the disney classic with a Benigni twist, so i thought it was great! Really funny and sweet! Why dont people like it???

Near as I can tell, the haters fail to see the humour of a 50-year-old man playing the part of a little kid. I mean, jeez, that alone is hilarous. But reading the neg comments, it looks like people complain about him being "miscast", "vain" or "pervy" (quoted from the comments).

Second, I think a lot of these people saw it in the theater as the English dub. If so, they had every right to hate it. The English dub is an atrocity.

Third, I notice in a lot of the neg comments that parents thought it was too disturbing. "Too much death" they say. But aside from the donkey, who died? The cricket, I guess? I'm still wondering about that one.

Fourth, from what I've read this is very different from the more popular Disney version (which I never saw). That probably confused a lot of people.

And last, I think a lot of the haters are Benigni noobs who probably saw Life is Beautiful and ran to see Pinocchio expecting to see more of the same. I guess that's the pitfall of making an internationally acclaimed film and trying to follow it with something totally different.

I myself wasn't even phased by the fact that a 50 year old man was playing a little kid, i was just sucked in by the story and the comedy and just enjoyed it!

I saw this in English before i saw the italian but i still liked it!! ha ha but i was disappointed when the BBC showed the English version because i love hearing Benigni's italian because he always shows a lot of enthusiasm when he's acting, and hearing someone elses voice wasn't the same.

I didn't think the donkey dying was a bad addition to the movie because it gave Pinocchio more of a sense of reality in a totally unrealistic story.

And i definitely agree with the last statement about Life is Beautiful, but i think its not as interesting if a writer/director sticks to the same genre and setting and storyline. Benigni has a lot of talent so its good to showcase that with a few different styles.

Rose, please say you didn't! Please say you didn't!!

The US dubbing ruined it. I watched it on television with the sound muted, the costume designs and sets are amazing. I have the score CD composed by Nicola Piovani, an exceptional recording.

I thought it was funny and I liked the dubbing that was done by breckin meyer and topher grace. I thought the blue fairy was goregous. I thought this one was way better than the one with jonathan taylor thomas, now that one was weirder

I really enjoyed this movie too and I don't understand the hate. I watched this movie as a child and i really liked it. It was also much more faithful to the book, which is also a big plus (prior to watching this film, I had only seen the Disney version, which I don't like due to being unfaithful to the book and more light-hearted than it should be).
