6.4?!?!?! is gamespot crazy?!?!!?

i just went to gamespot.com and they gave the legend of dragoon a 6.4 out of 10. this game should of at least got a 9.! doesen't anyone else think so? i waas so ready to complain. then i see how biased they r. they gave final fantasy 7 a 9.5 that game should have got perfect. then they give all the spyro games like a 9 and then they give jak 2 a 9. if u ask me, there favouring the adventure games a little now don't u?

reply

I don't truat gamespot on anything. I just go by my own opinion. If the game looks stupid then I won't play it, but TLOD was one of the first Playstaion console games that ever caught my eye, and damn man was I ever impressed.

i love this game infact played it through twice but i can totally see how it would get a low score its so a power rangers RPG that wants to be final fnatasy 7 the dialoug is cardboard and the story predictalbe its such an average RPG but i love it ive seen it get worse scores so be greatful for the 6.4

reply

I played the majority of this game and watched my brother play the rest, and I think it's a very decent game. It's very enjoyable to play and it deserves much better than a 6.4. I'd give it around an 8.5. I don't mind the voices at all in the game. Gamespot kinda sucks at rating things, and I make my own opinions too. Although Jak 2 totally deserves the 9 it gets because Jak 2 is incredible.

To the one who said he realized LOD wasn't really great on his second playthrough:

Of course the story is predictable when you play the game twice. It's been five or so years since I played it, even though I am gonna play again, I still remember the bulk of the story.

Plus, if it wasn't good, you wouldn't have played twice.

reply

I agree, I love this game myself. But if you look at the reader review the score is alot higher.

reply

Gamespot review sucked, legend of dragoon should get like a 9.0 at least, it was a great game and deserves a sequel.

I own both Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Dragoon and can easily say that LoD keeps my interest more than FF7. I've yet to complete FF7 because I always lose interest towards the end. Whenever I star a file for LoD I always complete it.

It's obvious you have an attachment to Vagrant Story so I won't go any further.

For a game that came out 8 years ago it was pretty good. Final Fantasy put things together pretty well that were already in most RPGs. But just because it's emulated doesn't mean it's good. The combat system in LoD is much more active than in FF because you don't sit there and and wait after pressing attack. I've never played Vagrant Story so I can't compare it to any other games.

Also, why did you revive a thread that had been dead for about 11 months?

reply

I bought Legend of dragoon when it first came out, and i've beaten it about 3 times since then (i've gotten to about the 3rd disk a few times, but video games don't really hold my interest that long, regardless of how much i love them)

anyways, I also own Final Fantasy 8.

and they did sorta steal the combat system from final fantasy, there's really no other way to do a turn based RPG, and the legend of dragoon system is miles better than the final fantasy system.

reply

So I'm half a year too late, but I really don't see how the battle system was stolen from Final Fantasy at all. Granted, I've only played Final Fantasies 4-10, but I didn't see dragoons as they appeared in this game, much less additions and item boosting.

I thought the story was fairly engaging, and definitely more so than, say, FFVIII's sorry excuse of a plot.

One thing I loved about this game was that it was difficult - more so than most rpgs are these days. A lot of games these days add in near impossible optional bosses, but are fairly easy to complete otherwise. Not so with LoD.

As for a 6.4...I don't know if it deserved a 9 or 10, but an 8 would have been more than fair. It was a graphically stunning game for its time, very interesting to play with an innovative battle system. It had a solid plot, good characters and a decent soundtrack. Very stilted dialogue with grammar errors scattered throughout though.

Never trust gamespot in regards to the ratings of games, they are so biased it isn't even funny, and they are pretentious pseudo intellectuals who want to play the strict card and sometimes they exagerate so much that they have lost credibility over the years.

LoD is one of the best RPG's ever made!

Good gurls are just bad gurls that haven't been caught.

reply

if your saying it stole from ff because of the timed hits, your wrong. mario rpg had timed hits b4 anyone else. and maybe they got that from someone else. still, overall id give this game a 9.8, i have played through it like 6 times. or more...

Personally i love LOD. The music captivated almost every place i went to explore. It was one of the only RPG's for me to see someone die and feel sorry for them. And no contrary to everyones ignorant belief its not a copy of FF7. I have played every FF game ever made. I have beaten almost all of them and destroyed everyone from FF7. I mean the secret bosses and secret parts of the story. LOD was unique because it had more depth in its world and the change in battle system was a challenge. It had more realism then FF and was truly a stunning exp even through out its ending. People brag about FF7 being the greatest and everything relating to it but half of them either A haven't even played the game and just watched the FFAC movie. B played through some of it and just bandwagoned what everyone else said.or C actually have played it and probaly didn't even grasp all of it. Thier aren't many die hard fans of FF. I'm one of those who says FF7 wasn't better then LOD for alot of reasons because FF7 just wasn't very deep. I loved FF8 waay more it said it should get perfect all around. LOD deserved a 9 in most books but if u wanna be so picky and nit gridy then a 8.5 would be around where it should be.

reply

I am COMPLETLY in love with the game! Whoever says it's a bad game is COMPLETELY crazy!!! No offense. For me, it's a 10!

reply

Um, I still play it, lol. I've played though it 5 times, and no I don't try to max everything...that was only my second file.

reply

First off, if you paid attention you'd see that Gamespot's review system says that a 6.4 is considered FAIR, as in better than not good. Just because they didn't say it was over-the-top great isn't cause for getting your panties in a bunch.

I do agree with their judgement that Legend of Dragoon is very (as they put it) "sentai" Meaning it was VERY formulaic. There wasn't really a whole lot about this game that was truly original; they quite clearly just took notes from other successful RPGs and threw them in a pot and made a game of its contents. You have 7 dragoons, one for each elemental. Fire, Water, Thunder, Wind, Dark, Earth and Light. That seems familiar.

The characters were incredibly generic AND followed suit from other RPGs. Dart is the super-heroic protagonist with a strong sense of every honorable personality trait. Shana is Dart's childhood friend and GUESS WHAT? SHE LOVES DART! Aww. It even plays that formulaic music-box music when they have a tender moment. Rose is the distant, cold, unemotional member of the team with a dark past. Meru is the super spunky, annoying girly member of the team. Albert is the skirt-chasing king. Kongol is the giant brute who is obviously of little intelligence, just wants a friend, etc. Haschel is the typical martial arts master who needs to learn to make love, not war. Meh.

Need I go on? Don't get me wrong this game was fun to play. The crowning achievement for this game is the soundtrack, IMO. I do believe most people are only give this game SO much credit is just because they want to stray from the pack of people who rave over Final Fantasy. Being off the bandwagon is pretty cool!

reply

I don't care with what websites rate games,IMO the game is a 9 out of 10,this is my second favorite RPG game on the PS1,Final Fantasy 8 is num 1 IMO
