The Two Guys

OK I tuned in part way into this movie... who were the two guys she was sleeping with at the same time supposed to be? Are they completely fictional characters?
Thanks

Who knows. It was made from a Joyce Carol Oates novel. I read the book, and it was not even clear.

The two guys played by Patrick Dempsey and Jensen Ackles are Cass Chaplin(Dempsey) and Eddie G Robinson(Ackles). They were real people. Cass was the son of Charlie Chaplin and Eddie G. was the son of Edward G Robinson, both of their fathers were well known actors.

So was it a romantic relationship between the the two guys and Marlyn or all three of them?

reply

Its assumed that the guys were bi in the movie but there is no other evidence to this anywhere else. In reality she dated both guys at different times and remained close with both until her death.

Sadly it seems the Wendigo doesn't like hot food.

Most of that whole relationship shown in this stupid movie was probably made up. I couldn't even find evidence of those two guys on this website. I realize that maybe names were different (just like MM's first husband's name). But I looked up EG Robinson and Chaplin. Chaplin did not have a son who died in the early 1960's. Also, why is Joe DiMaggio's name credited as "The Baseball Player". Very strange!

No pic, but I'd rather picture Jensen anyway.

Cass died after MM died in real life.

On the eighth day God created Jensen Ackles...he then said "Top That"

Chaplin had a son named after him but his nickname was Cass. But Cass died in 1968 from a blood clot.
Cass wrote a book and here is what he said:

“One of the young girls I had a relationship to at this time [ca. 1947] did a particular impression on Dad. She was of the same age as I, 21, an attractive, small and unknown movie actress named Norma Jean Dougherty who was under contract at Twentieth Century-Fox.
‘She is a beauty,’ Dad said. ‘What a body! I admire your taste, my son.’
Dad liked to chat with Norma Jean. I don’t know what they talked about, but I know that he did most of the talking, as she had great admiration for him.
‘She has a way of talking, don’t you think?’ he teased me. And then he would imitate Norma Jean!
‘Charrllieeee,’ he said with the hoarse voice which now is famous, ‘what are we doing tonight?’
But despite this joking behavior, Dad was also worried, because he knew that I felt a great deal of affection for this beautiful actress.
‘Watch out, boy,’ he’d say. ‘Don’t fall in love now. You have to consider your education first.’
But there was no need for Dad to worry about Norma Jean and me. ‘Well, Charrllieee,” she said to me one day, “from now on my name is Marilyn Monroe.’
Marilyn Monroe was on her way to success, and she was not of the slow kind. From a professional point of view it was absolutely necesseary for her to be seen together with all kind of movie stars, to make the papers interested in giving her a mention. The result was an estrangement between us, and I have not seen her for several years [1960].”

If anyone feels like dimming down away from Jensen's beauty. Here's the only real picture of Eddie G. I could find.
