HORRIBLE.

it seriously made me really mad.

I haven't seen the movie but I read the book and I agree it makes her look stupid and whore-ish. I know it's not real but stilllll.

The movie was SO trashy. I know the woman wasn't a genius, but that portrayal was horrible.

The men in it were ALL pigs and users. Sexist to the max.

Kirstie Alley's character was too creepy for words.

Disgusting how limited women's choices were back then, when an actress had to prostitute herself to get a movie contract.

And the anti-feminists call THOSE the "good old days"???

Thank you, no - those days belong in the past.

No job (or relationship, for that matter) is worth surrendering your soul and your self-respect. No way, no how.

Are you criticizing the movie... or the 1950's?

You left out that Marilyn made a huge progress for women in their creative and artistic rights by becoming the first woman to set up a production company.

Whoa, sorry, no offense intended, but... what?
Bette Davis had hers back in the forties, Mary Pickford became her own producer in 1916, then co-founded the hugely successful (and still existing) United Artists back in 1919 - and that's just two of her many movie business ventures, most of which were up and running (and running well) way before Miss Monroe was even born.

Actresses are still prostituting themselves to get movie contracts and it has nothing to do with Feminism or anti-Feminism.

I take it your not a fan?

reply

i dont beleive it made her look like a cheap whore, it may not have been a correct portrayal of Ms. Monroe ( it was fictional), but i think you can see someones life turning out like that

I felt the same way when I first saw it. Its not right when people take someone's name and basic life story and twist it all around for the sake of entertainment...

The whole movie was mean and depressing. It made her look like a stupid slut with no mind or will of her own. That simply isn't true. She was known to be very intellectually curious and smart. She started her own production company for crying out loud!

By all accounts she was indeed very needy, but that doesn't make a person crazy or slutty. This movie made her look like a cheap dumbo who didn't know what she was doing. The film gives her no credit whatsoever for her skills as an actress. She was a pioneer of the Method on film. Avant-garde, actually, in that she gave deep, uninhibited performances despite her lack of formal training in the Method (until later in her career).

Poppy Montgomery has to be one of the worst choices for Marilyn Monroe! She's AWFUL! She looks, sounds and moves nothing like Marilyn. There have been better films done about her. My choice is Catherine Hicks in "Marilyn: The Untold Story" (1980 TV movie).

"Blonde" joins "Norma Jean & Marilyn" (1996 TV movie) at the bottom of the list. I wish I had not switched over to see this thing. It treats her horribly, and that's unforgiveable. Others have covered the darkness in her life, but they showed her intelligence at a time when it was rarely acceptable.

I doubt that Montgomery spent as much time as she should have studying the woman/actress she was going to portray. It's as if she's going to a Halloween party. How sad that something like this gets made! It's just nasty!

I AGREE 1000000000000%%%% i HATED IT!!!!!! it made her look like a slut and it made her seem discusing and needy and desperate! she was an AMAZING women and whoever wrote that should b ashamed bc that was discusting to turn a women who has accomplished so much in her life, had made history, and still 45 years after her death is still admired and talked fondly about into a JOKE! Marilyn Monroe said it herself that she doesnt mind cracking jokes she just doesnt want to b one. If i was the actress who played her i would b honored but once i read the script i would have thrown it in the writers face. U can tell that obviously teh writer didnt like marilyn monroe and was jealous of her!

i don't understand why people idolize Marilyn Monroe. she hid her intelligence and acted like a stupid slut, so if she wanted people to see her that way, she deserves this portrayal. have other women who did actually make advances in women's rights stoop to the level of acting like ditzy morons to get attention? no, they did not. the suffragettes did no such thing. hilary clinton does no such thing. next you're going to tell me that the pussycat dolls are great minds and should be worshipped for their AMAZING work in improving how women are seen and treated. also, i would imagine the writer of this movie has the same opinion as myself, which is that marilyn manroe basically showed women that you have to be an idiotic blonde to be successful and to have a career. which is total and complete utter crapola. and how great can a person be if they end up killing themselves? that doesn't show strength. it shows a profound sadness.

PS. she wasn't the first blonde bombshell to be famous for that reason. try looking up Jean Harlow.

Forget the screenplay, it was fiction! The acting was terrible, and the casting way off. Lets keep in mind this is a made for tv film, geared at lonely housewives, and young kids thinking they are watching softcore porn when in reality its a cheaply made bio skit. Teribble, horrible, and awful! What trash.

I agree with the O.P., a really disgusting piece of work! it wasn't even entertaining either, just cheap and exploitive!
