The Bizarre Clown.

I don't know if it's just me, but the scene when Maureen sees that bizarre guy with the clown mask and balloons has to be one of the creepiest scenes in any movie.

Looks like something David Lynch would use.

Definitely adding this one to my "Scariest scenes" list.

I still am curious the connection of Maureen and the clown, was it just a trippy concept or was it something else?

I agree, it does seem like something David Lynch would use.

I think it added a great demension to this great 70's film.

This is totally my assumption, not based on anything that was stated explicitly in the film, but could it be that Maureen was sexually abused as a child by a clown? Just a hunch based on seeing a lot of movies like this.

Regardless, it's an extremely strange montage that works well in this film. The direction and concept were surprisingly good here. If only the story had as much going for it, such as it was.

The more I think about this film, the more I want to rewatch it.

It could be described as a plotless soft-core porn, but there is symbolism and actual depth, and it has a very surreal atmosphere.

The clown is one of the creepiest characters I've ever seen. I don't know what it means (if anything) but it was certainly unnerving.

It reminded me that Fellini was much better at inserting surreal scenes that actually meant something. Here it was a cheap attempt at trying to be Felliniesque. Not necessarily a bad try...but it wasn't really all that good either.
