Why Do They Greet in English?
I was just channel hopping and came across this on channel 4 (UK) and was wondering why they use English to say things like Hello, Goodbye, Thank you, even though the rest of the script is in Hindi (I think)?

Why can't they??? English is an official language in India and most people in the modern world use English words whether or not English is their first language (look up "Bambaiya").
Most Urban Indians are bilingual in English and hindi(or their local language), so it is very common for them to integrate the two during conversation. We jokingly call this language as Hindlish. If you ever visited India, you would find this to be a common phenomena.
sharedude, not to put too fine a point, but the word is HINGLISH not hindlish
its in the oxford , look it up guys!
we indians are very fluent in english and hindi and our own mother tongue
so most indians speak 3 languages off the bat...
in case some people imagined India as a country full of aborigines or something, dancing around trees, we are not like the damn NAVI... and even the NAVI spoke English !
