Scenes from other movies

This movie is quite good, but it has scenes from SO many English movies :

1. E.T. - Of course the most obvious one, since thats what the movie's based on.
2. Jack - Both Jack and Rohit are mistaken to be normal, mature adults.
3. Forrest Gump - A lot of similarity.
4. Spiderman - The scene where Rohit realizes he doesn't need glasses is almost identical to the one in Spiderman.

Has anyone noticed scenes from any other movies?

Maybe you're too young to know Spielberg's earlier work about aliens? The mother ship and musical-tone communication resemble a lot more "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" than "E.T."

reply

I'm going with spiderman....that annoyed me abt the film....it was more spiderman hero story than ET story....

reply

I'm going ahead with the notion that none of you know that E.T and Close Encounters were both 'inspired' (to put it mildly) by Satyajit Ray's 'The Alien'. Koi Mil Gaya follows The Alien more than any other movie.

Apart from the above listed here are some more

1)Space Jam - basket ball
2)Encounter of the 3rd Kind
3)Matilda - where he knows the answer of the advanced classes

I saw their website and check out the *beep* they written

The best is following

"Koi Mil gaya is India's first Sci fi movie and the world's first musical Sci fi movie". Oh man I feel so sorry for George Lucas, why didn't he think of that.

i showed it to my foriegn friends and we laughed so much at it. This movie is the best for laughs after Kung Pow

reply

i agree plus i also thought that the scene where we first see the mothership is exactly the same as the famous scene in Independence day with it coming out through the smoke.
I laughed my way throughout this movie, we just couldn't stop making fun of it.
The special effects, the alien, the storyline, it's endless.

reply

hello.. yeah there is also one scene where Rohit is surprised seeing at his muscles just like peter parker was amazed!! Well I suppose they (bollywood) is/are learning to make Scific movies and I hope for the best! Keep Chilling guys!!!

I picked out alot of similarities with ET, but I think maybe some of the other ones are a little bit harsh. There will be similarities between films at times, and I somehow doubt anyone would have somehow managed to combine ALL the above films into one. Although, I think Spiderman I would agree with. I probably wouldn't agree with Forrest Gump as much though, because if you are going to make some generalisations like that, you could say alot romantic films are 'inspired' by others.

opening credits... star wars

the "movie connections" section lists a reference to dune. Anyone know what the reference is?

reply

At a few points in this movie, I'm very sure that I heard one of the themes (not the main theme, I think its the one where the boy rides the dog) from The Neverending Story, note for note.

Besides ET, Spiderman, Independence Day, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, notice that Koi...Mil Gaya also appear to have "borrowed" stuff from Singin' In The Rain as well as Michael Jackson's music videos like Smooth Criminal and Black & White. The scene with the basketball may have been borrowed from Flubber. Decent flick, BTW.

Also, is it just me, or is the scene when the policecars and others surround the bag which is supposed to contain jadoo virtually the same as the ending to the last episode of Alf?

If you replace small furry alien with gargantuan nose with a bag supposedly containing an alien that looks like the unholy offspring of My Little Pony, Yoda and ET. Possibly South Park's Kenny too.

Loved the movie, damned amusing. Same spirit as The Emperor's New Groove.

reply

re Michael Jackson. Keep in mind that Jackson's videos (think of "Thriller" dance routines) were themselves influenced by Indian dance videos and dance routines in films.

It is not the first sci-fi musical.

The earliest science fiction musical I know of is Just Imagine, from 1930 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0021016/ and there were musical parts to some of the sci-fi serial films in the 1930s such as The Phantom Empire with Gene Autrey.

I thought the most obvious was copying "Singin' in the Rain", where Rohit does the SAME moves as Fred Astaire, right down to swinging around on the lamp post in the rain, and doing the chair-step-tilt down thing.
Also, "The Sound of Music" came to mind, with the children & Rohit singing and dancing around on the mountain meadows with the snow capped peaks in the background.

reply

so according to you, ANY kids singing on ANY god damn mountain is a COPY of sound of music ?

WTF...

True that some of the score are lifted from other places,

the singing in the rain is an HOMAGE, not COPY... movie pay homages all the time...

the basic premise is similar to E.T, but its not the exact same

and calling this a spiderman rip off is just stupid beyond words...

This would be remarkable, as Fred Astaire was not in Singin' in the Rain.
