if i would get a dollar every time when someone describes something as pseudo-intellectual just to look smart i would be a millionare. people use it way too much to impress others and it started to be more hilarious than clever long, long time ago

Actually It's full of images without a real meaning at the begining, that is not exactly "pseudo intellectual", I think a movie can not be "pseudo-intellectual" because someone did not understand the meaning of a movie.

That movie it's good and can be a part of a dicussion if someone wants to do it that is intellectual the product of discussion based in facts.

Obviously newyorke is too busy being so smart that he/she doesn't actually have time to comment on actual intellectual films or encourage discussions that mean much. Also, I must applaud someone who throws around the term pseudo-intellectual then uses such unique descriptions as 'stupid' and 'crap'.

What are you talking about? It was an excellent movie,beautiful. If you didn't like it, fair enough. But "see right through it"? What are you trying to say?

pseudo-intellectual ?? I love this word, sorry can you explain its meaning?? Maybe I´m not smart enough to understand it... I love people who use this kind of words, as dialectic, that means that you don´t have anything interesting to say???
I´ve read all the critics (¿?) i´m just wondering if when people out of spain saw the film, the only point they have matched was the sex scenes....
I though this was a page of film reviews but, nobody has made a constructive critic about the film (mise-en-scéne, lighting...)
this is one of my spanish favorite directors, I can not be objective, but the filmography of Medem has to be analised from the point of view of his culture with all the social baggage it embraces, maybe it can be hard to understand if you´re not spanish (not the film, but the way of talking about feelings and situations)
Altough from my point of view this is not his best film, I think all of his filmography is full of poetry, in comparison with Baudelaire, maybe it´s difficult to understand the whole meaning but it´s enjoyable for the senses... and that´s art, or is not??

Yes, it is a stupid movie. I just saw it.

99% of the men (and women?) who decided to watch this movie did it because it has a lot of SEX in it. That is why I wanted to see it, and I couldn't agree more with the film critics in today's newspaper: the (fragmented and confusing) story is just an excuse for the director to film sex and beautiful masturbating women.

Now you probably think "What a twisted pervert!".

And my reply to you is: "Don't you like sex?"

It's really only pseudo-intellectual if you don't know or are unable to interpret the context. I took a course in Spain in which we studied this film, and I can assure you that there is a lot of intellectual content, although it is undeniable that some of the movie is lost in translation from Spanish to English. Still, there's a lot to be analyzed, and a lot is being said... see the other thread that claims this movie has a built in filter for stupid viewers... I think it's a good point and might apply here.
